Pope Embarrasses King Abdullah of Saudi Arabia At Historic Meeting
The historic first meeting ever between a pope and the Saudi monarch, who is entrusted to protect Mecca, the birthplace of Mohammad and the center of the Islamic world, took a turn for the worse when the Pope suspected it wasn't King Abdullah.
Marco Politi, the Vatican correspondent for La Repubblica and a biographer of Pope John Paul II, said, “Right before Pope Benedict was ready to clasp hands with King Abdullah, he whispered to me, 'Pssssst.....hey Marco...I think that guy's got on a fake nose, glasses, goatee...and look at those eyebrows! Are you telling me those aren't fake eyebrows??? Come on!!! That could be anybody under that sheet!!!"
Marco then snapped the above picture of the Pope saying to King Abdullah, "Quick! Look over there!", trying to distract him. The Pope then grabbed King Abdullah's nose and started to twist it, saying, "The jig is up, Osama!!!"
Afterwards the Pope apologized, saying, "I saw one-too-many of those fake Osama Bin Laden tapes...I got a little carried away..."
