The "Liberal Media"

If THIS is the "liberal media"

...then what's THIS?

Democracy NOW! is on DISH channels 9410 LINK-TV and 9415 Free Speech TV (the BEST channel, bar none!), and DirecTV channel 375. You probably have these channels and don't watch them!

Wake up! 5 Corporations own 90% + of the "liberal media"! Corporations aren't "liberal"! Wake up! The SHAM wouldn't work, without the key component of getting you to BELIEVE the mainstream media is "liberal". The people who want you to THINK the mainstream media is liberal, are ON the "liberal media" crying that it's liberal! Look who's on TV all the time from the party that just got their ass kicked into the extreme minority: Dick Cheney, Newt Gingrich, Rush Limbaugh, Sean Hannity, Michelle Malkin, William Kristol, Glen Beck, more Republican senators and congressmen than the MAJORITY... I "get it"! Do you? Republicans have done what they always wanted and planned to do since the Nixon administration: take over the "liberal media"! All there's left to do is to look at the proof and admit it! It's hard to believe, because they make it hard to believe, by spending billions and billions of dollars to get you to believe this. Did they even get you to the point where you feel "uneasy", if you actually see Dennis Kucinich on TV? Or anyone with a non-Republican point of view? I'm careful to use the word "Republican" instead of "conservative", because the Republican Party is no longer conservative. The REAL "liberal media" is independent media, not owned by corporations: Free Speech TV, LINK-TV, the internet, community channels, and things like that. The "liberal media" is NOT: ABC, NBC, CBS, CNN, & FOX. Also, YOU and ME are the "liberal media"!

They have ALL the money, they're well-financed. PROPAGANDA has endless financing. They're purposely misinforming and confusing Americans, on behalf of their billionaire financiers. They're NOT for the people. They're for the corporations. You might think that PBS is "liberal media". Think again! PBS gets both government and corporate money. A redundant statement: government and corporate! Independent media does NOT! Sure, PBS is closer to "liberal media", but it's not.

One thing for sure, the "liberal media" doesn't cover protests! Ever think about that? That's one of the MAIN tenants of the "liberal media", because it's people getting together against the corporate establishment. And corporations OWN the "liberal media"...or the so-called "liberal media". Get out with people and protest! Remember: the revolution won't be broadcast...

Another Media IS Possible

Special commentary by Big Dan: "Gee! I don't see the 'liberal media' covering the May 30 single payer day of action! You know, the 'liberal media' ANBCBSNNX that Dick Cheney and Newt Gingrich are always on, that covers 'liberal' things like single payer health care! Those 5 'liberal' corporations that own all the media in this country. Also, are you still waiting for the 'liberal media' to report on the Bush administration's policy of The Sexual Humiliation Of Iraqi Prisoners? Don't hold your breath!"

Big Corporate Media Making Excuses For McClellan's Accusations That They Were White House Lapdogs

There has been a mountain of evidence documenting the truth of McClellan's observations about the press for years now. Books have been written demonstrating their mindless deference. Both The New York Times and The Washington Post have acknowledged, to varying degrees, that they were complicit in disseminating false pro-war propaganda and suppressing the anti-war case. And the networks themselves -- though they pretend otherwise -- are smack in the middle of a growing scandal over the fact that they continuously presented Pentagon-controlled commentators, plagued by all sorts of undisclosed financial and ideological ties, as "independent analysts" to spout the pro-Government line on everything having to do with the war. War opponents were almost nowhere to be found on those same networks. And their own stars are beginning to speak out about the pressures that were put on them to avoid confrontation with the Government.

MP3 of Glenn Greenwald of Salon.com interviewing Jeff Cohen, the former producer of the MSNBC show Donahue, which was canceled weeks before the invasion of Iraq despite being that network's highest rated show because, as a leaked NBC memorandum revealed, that network did not want to host an anti-war commentator -- not even a single one.

It quite amusing watching these members of the press dance on the head of a pin trying to sell us on the idea that they didn't actually kiss George W. Bush's ass for nearly six years before it finally became too unfashionable to do so. They are acting as if this has never been brought up before and they must defend their honor. Sorry guys. Scotty is just saying what everybody who pays attention to this stuff already knew. Remember this?

* This extraordinary column from the McClatchy journalism team that proved that real journalism with regard to administration claims was possible in the run-up to the war. They understandably have little tolerance for the self-serving, transparently false defenses offered this week from the likes of Brian Williams and Charlie Gibson, which they label as "Hogwash. Hogwash! HOGWASH" (emphasis in original). If you read one column in its entirety this week, that one should be it.

McClatchy: Until now, we've resisted the temptation to post on former White House press secretary Scott McClellan's new book, which accuses the Bush White House of launching a propaganda campaign to sell the war in Iraq. Why? It's not news. At least not to some of us who've covered the story from the start.

Here's 3 McClatchey articles calling the Bush administration's propaganda DURING the propaganda YEARS AGO:

HuffPo: Pentagon "Media Analysts" Appeared On Major Networks Or Were Quoted More Than 4,500

HuffPo: Pentagon Suspends Military Media Analysts Program

Summary: A New York Times article detailed the connection between numerous media military analysts and the Pentagon and defense industries, reporting that "the Bush administration has used its control over access and information in an effort to transform" media military analysts "into a kind of media Trojan horse -- an instrument intended to shape terrorism coverage from inside the major TV and radio networks." A Media Matters review found that since January 1, 2002, the analysts named in the Times article -- many identified as having ties to the defense industry -- collectively appeared or were quoted as experts more than 4,500 times on ABC, ABC News Now, CBS, CBS Radio Network, NBC, CNN, CNN Headline News, Fox News, MSNBC, CNBC, and NPR.

Not In The "news": Union Workers Shut Down West Coast Ports To Protest War

Not being covered in the corporate media: Today! May 1, West Coast Ports to be shut down to protest war!

For Workers Strikes Against the War! ILWU to Shut Down West Coast Ports May 1 Demanding End to War in Iraq, Afghanistan. In a major step for the U.S. labor movement, the International Longshore and Warehouse Union (ILWU) has announced that it will shut down West Coast ports on May 1, to demand an immediate end to the war and occupation in Iraq and Afghanistan and the withdrawal of U.S. troops from the Middle East.

Where is it on ABC???

Where is it on NBC???

Where is it on CBS???

How come when I GOOGLE it, it's not on any major corporate news??? Is there a coordinated blackout on it???

ALL THE MAJOR NETWORKS HAVE "FUGITIVE MOM" WHEN I GOOGLE IT!!!

Democracy NOW! DISH channels 9410 & 9415, DirecTV channel 275:

Defying Employers, Anti-War Dockworkers Plan to Shut Down West Coast Ports

The International Longshore and Warehouse Union has been organizing to shut down ports on the West Coast today – May Day—to protest the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan. But yesterday an arbitrator ordered the union to tell its members that they must report to work today. We speak to Clarence Thomas, an executive Board member of the International Longshore and Warehouse Union (ILWU) Local 10 and a member of U.S. Labor Against the War.

Tension is rising here on the West Coast between dockworkers and their employers group, the Pacific Maritime Association. The International Longshore and Warehouse Union has been organizing to shut down ports on the West Coast today – May Day—to protest the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan. But yesterday an arbitrator ordered the union to tell its members that they must report to work today. Meanwhile dockworkers in Iraq have announced plans to shut down the ports of Umm Qasr and Khor Al Zubair for one hour today to show solidarity with the U.S. dockworkers.

To talk more about the situation we are joined by Clarence Thomas. He is an executive Board member of the International Longshore and Warehouse Union (ILWU) Local 10 and a member of U.S. Labor Against the War.

Let's Play The "Betty Hall Hunger Strike" Game!

Let's go into Google and try to find an article on 87-Year Old New Hampshire State Representative Betty Hall's hunger strike on ABC or NBC or CBS or CNN or FOX, in which she says she will not eat and is willing to die for impeachment of Bush & Cheney! In google, put: abc OR nbc OR cbs OR cnn OR fox "betty hall", exactly like that, and bump it up to "show first 100 hits" which is the same as 10 pages of google

...you get this: click here

NOTHING ON BETTY HALL'S HUNGER STRIKE on ABC or NBC or CBS or CNN or FOX! You can even click on "Edit/Find On This Page" and try and find hunger or strike! NOTHING! How are you going to know that Betty Hall is on a hunger strike and willing to die for the impeachment of Bush & Cheney, if you can't even find it if you're looking for it??? Do you expect someone to just tell you about it? Oh! I forgot! I was actually going out of my way looking for it myself!

Now let's do it for Roger Clemens!

...you get this: click here

You get multiple articles from every major ANBCBSNNX corporate-controlled news site on Roger Clemens' steroid hearing!

Now let's get a little more specific and search for the "afterdowningstreet" and "betty hall", and the article doesn't come up until the 3rd page in google! That means, besides ANBCBSNNX making it difficult for you to find out about Betty Hall's hunger strike, Google is also making it pretty difficult! And who's going to put in a search "betty hall" and "afterdowningstreet" and go to the 3rd page, anyway?

click here and go to the 3rd page...about the 4th article down...

One last thing, just for "shits & giggles", let's do a google search on "New York Times" and "Betty Hall", with 100 hits (10 pages) and you get this: click here

NOTHING ON BETTY HALL'S WILLING TO DIE HUNGER STRIKE FOR THE IMPEACHMENT OF BUSH & CHENEY FROM THE "LIBERAL" (LOL!) NEW YORK TIMES!

Help me out here! Because I'm beginning to think I'm one of those "tin foil hat conspiracy theorists"!

John McCain Wins 2008 Presidential Election 51%-49% On Electronic Voting Machines!

Even though all the exit polls said Barack O'Hillary won the election by a landslide and even though Democratic voters showed up in record numbers and outnumbered Republican voters 2:1, the electronic vote machines DIEBOLD/PREMIER and ES&S electronic voting machines "calculated" a close 51%-49% victory for the "Comeback Kid" John McCain! How were the exit polls, pundits, and voters so wrong?

The corporate-controlled mainstream media has claimed that pundits, exit polls, and actual voters didn't take into account: young people not turning out, the hispanics voting for McCain, soccer moms voting for McCain, NASCAR dads voting for McCain, the evangelicals voting for McCain, blacks voting for McCain, the record turnout Democratic voters voting for McCain, racists voting for McCain, old people voting for McCain, veterans voting for McCain, the overseas votes coming in for McCain, single moms voting for McCain, dads voting for McCain, the unemployed voting for McCain, Al Qaeda voting for McCain, Muslims voting for McCain, Jews voting for McCain, suicide bombers with Down's Syndrome voting for McCain, Chinese buffets voting for McCain, gays voting for McCain, 9/11 victims voting for McCain, Vietnamese "GOOKS" voting for McCain, Democratic voters turned off by Hillary & Obama's close primary, anti-feminists, the KKK, Rush Limbaugh, McCain "reached out to conservatives", McCain "reached out to liberals", etc...etc...etc...

Even when the landslide exit polls were coming in, in favor of Barack O'Hillary, John McCain exuded confidence that he would be the next president, the same confidence exuded by George W. Bush as the landslide exit polls came in, in favor of Al Gore in 2000 & John Kerry in 2004.

President John McCain says he plans to carry on with the Bush/Cheney agenda.

Does Anyone Believe This Bullshit Anymore? "IRAQI WOMEN SUICIDE BOMBERS WITH DOWNS SYNDROME"

(Do you see a mentally retarded woman with Down's Syndrome in this picture?)

(Note: by dumb luck, I happened to have copied this entire ridiculous article into this post and it no longer exists, you can't find it anywhere. Click on the link below and it's gone. This is a prime example of PROPAGANDA: they throw out these bullshit stories and then PURGE them from the internet. Luckily, I cut/pasted it here in its entirety, and it serves as an all-time great example of propaganda. The actual article is in black, my comments ridiculing it are in red. It's a work of art! And my comments from 2008 apply to all articles like this from 2008 to the present)

Mentally disabled women used in bombings

By STEVEN R. HURST, Associated Press Writer
Fri Feb 1, 6:41 PM ET

BAGHDAD - Two women described as mentally disabled and strapped with remote-control explosives — and possibly used as unwitting suicide bombers — brought carnage Friday to two pet bazaars, killing at least 91 people in the deadliest day since Washington flooded the capital with extra troops last spring. (bd: If they blew themselves up and everyone around them, how did they know they were even women, let alone mentally retarted??? Obviously, the nearest people to the explosion were blown to smithereens, too...they were the casualties, so who is a witness?)
Brig. Gen. Qassim al-Moussawi, Iraq's chief military spokesman in Baghdad (bd: Red flag!), said the women had Down syndrome (bd: So, somehow this guy knew from the billions of 1/2 inch pieces of human remains, that it was 2 women and they had Downs Syndrome! How did he know they had Downs Syndrome?) and may not have known they were on suicide missions, but gave no further details on how authorities pieced together the evidence. He also said the bombs were detonated by remote control (bd: How did he know that?).

The coordinated blasts — coming 20 minutes apart in different parts of the city — appeared to reinforce U.S. claims al-Qaida in Iraq may be increasingly desperate and running short of able-bodied men willing or available for such missions (bd: Later in this article, they change it to "bears the hallmarks of Al Qaida).

But they also served as a reminder that Iraqi insurgents are constantly shifting their strategies in attempts to unravel recent security gains around the country. Women have been used in ever greater frequency (bd: According to WHOM???) in suicide attacks because they often encounter less scrutiny by security officials.

The twin attacks at the pet markets, however, could mark a disturbing use of unknowing agents of death.

In Washington, Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice said the bombings prove al-Qaida is "the most brutal and bankrupt of movements" and will strengthen Iraqi resolve to reject terrorism (bd: Hmmm...coordinated media blitz, huh? When did Rice write this up? Said the same thing as that Iraqi "official"!).

Iraqi officials raised the death toll to 91 from 73 in the early hours of Saturday, but they were unable to immediately provide a casualty break down in the two bombings. The police and Interior Ministry officials spoke on condition of anonymity (bd: Red flag!) because they were not authorized to release the information.

Earlier, officials had said the first bomber was detonated about 10:20 a.m. in the central al-Ghazl market. Four police and hospital officials (bd: What were their names?) said at least 46 people were killed and more than 100 wounded.

Police said the woman wearing the bomb (bd: So, now the police saw the woman wearing the bomb? Were the police wounded?) sold cream in the mornings at the market and was known to locals as "the crazy lady." (bd: Still wondering, if all the people in the immediate area were blown to smithereens, how did they know it was a woman with Downs Syndrome?)
The pet bazaar has been bombed repeatedly, but with violence declining in the capital, the market had regained popularity as a shopping district and place to stroll on Fridays, the Muslim day of prayer.

But on Friday, it was returned to a scene straight out of the worst days of the conflict. Firefighters scooped up debris scattered among pools of blood, clothing and pigeon carcasses (bd: But they somehow pieced together that it was a woman with Downs Syndrome!).

A pigeon vendor said the market had been unusually crowded, with people taking advantage of a pleasantly crisp and clear winter day after a particularly harsh January.

"I have been going to the pet market with my friend every Friday, selling and buying pigeons," said Ali Ahmed, who was hit by shrapnel in his legs and chest. "It was nice weather today and the market was so crowded."

He said he was worried about his friend, Zaki, who disappeared after the blast about 40 yards away (bd: Why doesn't Ali Ahmed ask whoever somehow knew the minute body parts were from a woman with Down's Syndrome...where his brother is?).

"I just remember the horrible scene of the bodies of dead and wounded people mixed with the blood of animals and birds, then I found myself lying in a hospital bed," Ali said.

About 20 minutes after the first attack, the second female suicide bomber (bd: With Down's Syndrome, right? She also was medically certified with Down's Syndrome, shortly before the bombing in war-torn Iraq! They know the medical records of all the people in Bagdad! Funny, no one can get any health care attention due to conditions there, but they somehow knew these 2 women had Down's Syndrome...and that they were women in the first place!) was blown apart in a bird market in a predominantly Shiite area in southeastern Baghdad. Initial reports had said as many as 27 people died and 67 were wounded, police and hospital officials said.

Rae Muhsin, the 21-year-old owner of a cell phone store, said he was walking toward the New Baghdad bird market when the explosion shattered the windows of nearby stores.

"I ran toward the bird market and saw charred pieces of flesh, small spots of blood and several damaged cars," Muhsin said. "I thought that we had achieved real security in Baghdad, but it turned that we were wrong."

The bombings were the latest in a series that has frayed Iraqi confidence in the permanence of recent security gains (bd: See Naomi Klein's "Shock Doctrine"...keep them in a state of shock & chaos. So, we still can't control Bagdad after 5 fucking years and $600 billion dollars of our tax money, probably more than that???).

The U.S. military (bd: Hmmm...coordinated Iraqi guy, Rice, military statements.) in Iraqi (bd: "in Iraqi"...great writing...) issued a statement that shared "the outrage of the Iraqi people, and we condemn the brutal enemy responsible for these attacks, which bear the hallmarks of being carried out by al-Qaida in Iraq (bd: Yes, "share" their outrage! To get on their side! "We" are outraged! The strawman argument, to get them on our side.)."

The U.S. ambassador to Iraq, Ryan Crocker, said the bombings showed that a resilient al-Qaida has "found a different, deadly way" to try to destabilize Iraq (bd: Very nice, coordinated media blitz! Did you tell them, that this wasn't happening before we invaded their country? Oh! But "We're" outraged with you! "We're" outraged that "WE" invaded your country and caused all of this!).

"There is nothing they won't do (bd: I thought you said it only "beared the hallmarks" of Al Qaida!!!) if they think it will work in creating carnage and the political fallout that comes from that," he told The Associated Press in an interview at the State Department.

Iraqi President Jalal Talabani (bd: Our "stooge". No one's even sure who the president is over there! I bet you didn't know!) said the attacks were motivated by revenge and an attempt "to stop the march of history and of our people toward reconciliation." He confirmed the death toll was about 70.

Navy Cmdr. Scott Rye, a U.S. military spokesman, gave far lower casualty figures — seven killed and 23 wounded in the first bombing, and 20 killed and 30 wounded in the second (bd: Exactly why are the figures different???).

He confirmed, however, that both attacks were carried out by women wearing explosives vests (bd: How did all these different people and sources know that that tiny body parts were 2 women with Down's Syndrome with bombs strapped on themselves? I don't think I'm off-base asking this perfectly rational question!!!!!!!!!) and said the attacks appeared coordinated and likely the work of al-Qaida in Iraq.

Associated Press records show (bd: If the AP records are anything like THIS bullshit, then those are pretty bad records! A bunch of guys saying stuff are "records"??? If you mean by "records", "AP ARTICLES", then that's a totally different definition of "records"!!!) that since the start of the war at least 169 people have been killed in at least 17 attacks or attempted attacks by female suicide bombers, including Friday's bombings (bd: Well I guess that IS what they mean by "records"!!!).

The most recent previous attack was Jan. 16 when a female suicide bomber (bd: With Down's Syndrome, by any chance???) detonated her explosives among men preparing for the Ashoura holiday in a Shiite village in Diyala province, northeast of Baghdad (bd: Where's the proof they were women? I know they "said" they were women...).

While involving women in such deadly activity violates cultural taboos in Iraq (bd: DING DING DING! They probably aren't women! Nor do they have Down's Syndrome!), the U.S. military has warned that al-Qaida is recruiting women (bd: How do they know that?) and young people as suicide attackers because militants are increasingly desperate to thwart stepped-up security measures.

Syria also has reportedly tightened its border with Iraq, a main transit point for incoming foreign bombers.

Women in Iraq often wear abayas, the black Islamic robe, and avoid thorough searches at checkpoints (bd: Yeah, right!!! They don't search them! Do you believe that? They beat them, subjugate them, make them wear those things in the first place...but they won't search them! That's where they draw the line! Bullshit! So, they follow the Islamic rule of not searching women, but disregard the Islamic rule of blowing them up!!!) because men are not allowed to touch them and there are too few female police.

Even the use of the handicapped in suicide bombings is not unprecedented in Iraq. In January 2005, Iraq's interior minister said (bd: LOL! And then Rice, the military, some more Iraqi stooges, etc...all said it at the same time! And then Bush & Cheney said it!) insurgents used a disabled child in a suicide attack on election day. Police at the scene of the bombing said the child appeared to have Down syndrome (bd: LOL!!!!!!!! Bullshit!!!!!!! The "trustworthy" Iraqi police said it! You know, the one's who are MUTINYING and KILLING EACH OTHER!).

Many teenage boys were among the casualties in the al-Ghazl bombing Friday, according to the officials who gave the death toll. They spoke on condition of anonymity because they weren't authorized to release the information (bd: Did AP cut/paste this sentence from above?).

In Late November, a bomb hidden in a box of small birds (bd: The birds had Down's Syndrome, now Al Qaida has stooped to not only blowing up cute little birds, but cute little birds with Down's Syndrome!) exploded at the al-Ghazl market, killing at least 15 people and wounding dozens. The U.S. military blamed the November attack on Iranian-backed (bd: Hmmm...you don't suppose we're making this shit up, to then "blame our opponent"? Like that false, debunked Iranian speedboat incident? Or the "white Al Qaida"? Remember that? That story suddenly disappeared!) Shiite militants, saying they had hoped al-Qaida in Iraq would be held responsible for the attack so Iraqis would turn to them for protection.

The U.S. military has been unable to stop the suicide bombings (bd: So, 5 years, a million dead Iraqi civilians, thousands of dead U.S. troops, tens-of-thousands of maimed U.S. troops, a million Iraqi widows, almost a trillion of our tax dollars...AND WE'RE UNABLE TO STOP SUICIDE BOMBINGS WHICH WEREN'T THERE BEFORE WE INVADED THEM!!!) despite a steep drop in violence in the past six months. Friday's blasts were the deadliest in the capital since an April 18 suicide car bombing that killed 116 and wounded 145. Washington's "surge" of an additional 30,000 soldiers into Baghdad and other parts of central Iraq began in February, but did not reach full strength until June.

(bd: I'M SICK OF THIS BULLSHIT PROPAGANDA!!!!!!!!!!!!! I don't believe that Iraqi's are blowing up their fellow brothers and sisters, and in the area most secured by the U.S., but who's doing it?)

Democracy NOW! Is Breaking NBC's Sound Barrier

(NBC silences Congressman Dennis Kucinich from American voters. That's NBC, owned by war-profiteer GE, silencing anti-war candidate Dennis Kucinich...fascism!)

Today on Democracy NOW! DISH channels 9410 & 9415, DirecTV channel 375:

Breaking the Sound Barrier: Democracy Now! Re-Hosts NBC Las Vegas Debate to Include Kucinich After NBC Wins Appeal to Exclude Him
Ohio Congressman Dennis Kucinich was missing from the stage at last night’s Democratic debate hosted by MSNBC in Las Vegas after he lost a last-minute legal fight with the network over his participation. Last week, NBC told Kucinich that he had met the criteria for the debate. Then, less than two days later, the network changed the criteria and declared that Kucinich was no longer qualified. On Monday, a Nevada judge ordered NBC to include Kucinich, but then NBC appealed the ruling and actively fought to keep him off the stage. On Tuesday night, less than an hour before the debate, the Nevada Supreme Court sided with NBC. Democracy Now! decided to break the sound barrier and give Kucinich a chance to take part. In an exclusive broadcast, we re-broadcast excerpts of the debate and give the Ohio Congressman a chance to answer the questions he might have faced if he hadn’t been silenced.

REP. DENNIS KUCINICH: So we’ve—you know, we’re in a conundrum here about what the public’s rights are, because this goes far beyond my humble candidacy. It goes right to the question of democratic governance, whether a broadcast network can choose who the candidates will be based on their narrow concerns, because they’ve contributed—GE, NBC and Raytheon, another one of GE’s property, have all contributed substantially to Democratic candidates who were in the debate. And the fact of the matter is, with GE building nuclear power plants, they have a vested interest in Yucca Mountain in Nevada being kept open; with GE being involved with Raytheon, another defense contractor, they have an interest in war continuing. So NBC ends up being their propaganda arm to be able to advance their economic interests.

How Come Nothing Happens, When Our Government And Corporate-Owned News Are Caught In Bed Together (again), Lying About Something Important?

(Iran/speedboat incident trumped up to try and get us to bomb Iran; somehow, this speedboat threatened huge America warships! Audio from incident faked, see stories below. Happens, coincidentally, right when Bush visits Israel and middle east! What if our newspapers told us the truth?)

Bush Gets A "Mulligan" To Think Up Another FAKE Story To Bomb Iran; Nothing Happens To Him For Lying...again...

Again, the people who stole their way into office and the corporate-owned media are caught red-handed lying about a situation with Iran! The last time, it was the U.S. government getting caught red-handed lying about Iran having WMD's. Then they lied about things Ahmadinejhad said. Remember when they lied us into the Iraq War? Morphing Osama Bin Laden into Sadaam Hussein/Iraq? Somehow we fell for it? What has our country become, in that when the Bush administration is caught lying about major things that lead us to wars with other countries, we don't do anything and nothing happens to him? Does Bush get to keep trying, until one of the lies works and we bomb Iran? And in the meantime, nothing happens to him? Like with Iraq? This is how you can act, when you steal elections and you aren't accountable to voters. Why do you think he doesn't do what Americans want? That's why I'm so angry about people not entertaining the possibility that the actual e-vote machine count is off in the New Hampshire Hillary/Obama primary.

Here we go again, below, and here we go again, nothing will happen to the Bush government:

Despite the official and media portrayal of the incident in the Strait of Hormuz early Monday morning as a serious threat to U.S. ships from Iranian speedboats that nearly resulted in a "battle at sea", new information over the past three days suggests that the incident did not involve such a threat and that no U.S. commander was on the verge of firing at the Iranian boats.

And there's more here at non-corporate-owned Democracy NOW! news on DISH channel 9410 LINK-TV & channel 9415 Free Speech TV (both channels not corporate-owned), and DirecTV channel 375 LINK-TV:

DN! transcript or DN! video

The title of this post is, "How Come Nothing Happens, When Our Government And Corporate-Owned News Are Caught In Bed Together (again), Lying About Something Important?" Well, there is something you can do:

If you have DISH, would you please start watching channels 9410 & 9415? It won't cost you a penny, if you already have DISH! Just start watching those channels!

If you have DirecTV, would you please start watching channel 375? It's LINK-TV. DirecTV doesn't have Free Speech TV, though.

If you have cable, would you please switch to DISH so you get these channels? DISH is cheaper & better! And switch from DirecTV to DISH if you can, because DISH is the only one with Free Speech TV. Or continue to get brainwashed with the news of Brittany Spears latest escapades and the corporate-owned news which is a megaphone for the Bush administration. It's not "liberal" like they want you to think! Calling it "liberal" is them giving it false legitimacy. Write down on a piece of paper, WHO is actually saying that corporate-owned media is "liberal". Rush Limbaugh says it! That's his job! To pretend to you that corporate-owned news is "liberal"!

Worried about not getting rid of cable because you have your internet through cable? Just get DSL! It's also cheaper! I have a high-speed Verizon DSL internet plan for $15/month! The cable/internet plan I had with now-defunct Adelphia (owners in jail; now it's Comcast) was more than $50 higher than my combination of DISH/Verizon DSL, and I get Free Speech TV & LINK-TV. Enough said! You have no excuse! If you like the Democracy NOW! clip above, you already have Democracy NOW! if you have either DISH or DirecTV, and you don't realize it! It's up to you, to figure this stuff out, who's right and who's wrong...and who's lying! It took me a long time, but I found out...

The New York Crimes Reports: "News Coverage Of The War Is Better Now...That The Military Is Back In Control Of The News Media"

(General BetrayUs, "thumbs up" to the news media!)

The New York Crimes reports on the "improving relationship" between the news media and the military.

WASHINGTON — The anguished relationship between the military and the news media appears to be on the mend as battlefield successes from the troop increase in Iraq are reflected in more upbeat news coverage. According to the military, the anguished relationship was caused by the media's accurate reporting.

Efforts from the new Pentagon leadership, as well as by top commanders at the headquarters in Baghdad, have also eased tensions between reporters and those in uniform, although there were only tensions between top military commanders and the news media's accurate reporting, not with those in uniform. Positive or negative, the troops’ view of the news media is set as much by the tone of commanders as by the tenor of individual news clips.

Gen. David H. Petraeus, the senior American officer in Iraq, and his subordinates have worked hard to convey the rationale for their strategy and the evidence that persuades them it is succeeding. They have to "persuade them" because it's not true. General BetrayUs is going to change his name to "General PersuadeUs". Adm. Mike Mullen, the new chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, has engaged reporters in a variety of venues: at the Pentagon, on travels across the United States and overseas, including the Middle East. Adm. Mullen is teaching the news media how to report the war. They don't know how to, according to him. Otherwise, he wouldn't be "engaging" them in anything!

And, perhaps most important, their boss, Defense Secretary Robert M. Gates, has stated a view never heard from his predecessor, Donald H. Rumsfeld. “The press is not the enemy,” Mr. Gates tells military audiences, including at the service academies, “and to treat it as such is self-defeating.” Implying, among other things, that Rumsfeld did in fact say the press was the enemy.

At the start of the Iraq war, decades of open hostilities between the military and news media dating from Vietnam were forgotten, if only for a brief and shining moment. That brief and shining moment was when Judith Miller of the New York Times wrote false stories that Iraq had WMD's. One reason was the embed program for the Iraq invasion that placed hundreds of reporters from across the journalistic spectrum into combat units. Soldiers and correspondents shared tents, meals and risks, and both sides said that perhaps their differences were not irreconcilable after all. Making objective, unbiased reporting impossible. That was another brief and shining moment of forgotten hostilities between the news media and the military. According to the top military commanders, all the brief and shining moments of no hostilities between the news media and the military were when the news media was reporting what the military wanted them to report, while "embedded".

Then, however, the success of the lightning-quick invasion became not the full story, but merely the early chapter of a frustrating and deadly narrative of war in Iraq. That's the part when the top military commanders said there were hostilities between the news media and the military.

As insurgent violence rose in 2003, echoes of that earlier conflict in Southeast Asia could be heard. The echoes of reporting reality, instead of what the military wanted them to report. The downturn accelerated with the Abu Ghraib prison scandal in 2004. The downturn occurred when the news media reported it. The credibility of the armed forces fell even further in the eyes of reporters when it was disclosed that military contractors in Baghdad had paid Iraqi reporters for stories in the local news media. And the hostilities between the news media and the military took a further downturn when the news media reported that, too.

In return, the military’s familiar complaints resumed: There is no coverage of the good news from Iraq, officers said. The focus is on violence and daily casualty counts, and not progress. Reporters cannot or will not get out and about in Iraq to tell the whole story, because it's too dangerous. Editors and reporters are biased, according to us, because they aren't reporting what we want them to report. We're supposed to tell them what to report, and they report that. Not what they see.

As recently as October, Lt. Gen. Ricardo S. Sanchez, who had served as the first commander of the Iraq occupation, came out of retirement to condemn coverage of the war. It was called "The Gen. Sanchez Farewell Tour". I have a t-shirt from it.

“The death knell of your ethics has been enabled by your parent organizations who have chosen to align themselves with political agendas,” General Sanchez said in comments that earned far less coverage than his equally harsh statement that the Bush administration had mismanaged the war, although you can't get any worse of a story than a General stating that a president is mismanaging a war.

“What is clear to me,” General Sanchez told a media group, Military Reporters and Editors, “is that you are perpetuating the corrosive partisan politics that is destroying our country and killing our service members who are at war. If you reported what we tell you to report, then you wouldn't be reporting that our service members are being killed because of a president mismanaging a war, and it would seem like they weren't getting killed. So, they're getting killed because you're reporting that they're getting killed."

Just days earlier, in his valedictory address as chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, Gen. Peter Pace used his final minutes as the nation’s highest-ranking officer to describe how his interactions with Congress and the news media had soured him on both. He stepped down because the war was going very badly.

“In some instances right now we have individuals who are more interested in making somebody else look bad than they are in finding the right solution, and those individuals are George W. Bush and Dick Cheney,” General Pace said.

Yet, as the tone of news reporting from Iraq has shifted in recent months from reality to what the military wants the news media to report, so have the views commonly heard from officers in Iraq.

Recent interviews with dozens of military officers in Iraq found a sense of frustration that the war was receiving less coverage than they would like — they'd rather the war receive more coverage than for it to be over and be home...according to military officers... - but a sense nonetheless that the coverage was forthright and balanced.

“The media in general is doing a pretty good job portraying the situation, because they have gone back to the Judith Miller-style of lying and biased reporting we tell them to report” said Lt. Col. Rodger Lemons, operations officer for the First Cavalry Division’s Fourth Brigade Combat Team.

Interviewed last month in Mosul as he was completing a 15-month tour, his 5th one, Colonel Lemons said: “Spectacular attacks still get the big media attention. I would like to see more good news, there isn't any. Who wouldn’t? But the reporters who have embedded with us have been fair, meaning they are reporting what we want, because we protect them. They only report from our point of view, they can't be objective because they're 'embedded' with us. They cannot report from the point of view of the Iraqi civilians.

In a study of last year’s published news reports conducted by the Project for Excellence in Journalism at the Pew Research Center, more than half of all coverage of Iraq was found to be pessimistic, realistic, and factual. The view of American policy and military progress was mixed over all, with 4 in 10 pieces offering a mixed assessment, one-third a negative view and one-quarter more optimistic. Reporting is a "bell-curve" system. If reality is negative, it must be balanced off with fake positive stories, even if the reality isn't balanced, the reporting must have an equal balance of positive and negative stories.

The troop increase ordered by President Bush in January began to show results over the summer, such as more troops missing another Christmas on their 5th tours of over-extended duty in a war that was guaranteed to last a few weeks, and improving trends in security have received commensurate coverage. The Pew researchers found that positive assessments of the expanded American military operations began to rise in November. Still assumming that the news media were previously lying, and weren't reporting the "positive assessments".

“It is obvious that many of the stories in print and television now have a more positive tenor; we're looking for stories to have a more positive tenor, irregardless of what is actually happening; it ties directly to what we've been telling them is happening on the ground,” said Lt. Col. James Hutton, public affairs officer for Multinational Corps-Iraq and the spokesman for Lt. Gen. Raymond T. Odierno, commander of day-to-day military operations.

“I’m satisfied that the majority of reporters on the ground want to get the story right the way we tell them and are responsive when we tell them their reporting is seen as less than accurate and we call them on it,” said Colonel Hutton, who is nearing the end of his second tour of duty in Iraq.

Setting the tone of how the military wants the news media to report the war from the top, General Petraeus decided that managing the military’s media mission (isn't he admitting it right there??? they're "managing" the news media???) required a high-ranking career public affairs officer, and he assigned Rear Adm. Greg Smith, previously chief of information for the Navy, to be director of communications for Multinational Force-Iraq, the top military command structure in the country. The news media is now back in control of the military, like at the beginning of the war. We're thinking of hiring Judith Miller back.

Admiral Smith, the first one-star public affairs propaganda officer in Baghdad, acknowledged that troops who had previously served in Iraq “may have lived through a time when it seemed that all that was being reported was negative news, even though they were doing so much good on any given day that was not being reported. They're now living through a time when we have the news media back under our control, like at the beginning of the war. And I literally mean, it's the same guys living through it. They're not ever going home!

“I think there was a period time in the past in which the military said the reporting was behind reality,” Admiral Smith said. “Today, according to us, that gap between perception and reality has closed , if not completely. Because the news media is reporting what we want them to report. When things are 'going well' between the news media and the military, you can be sure they're reporting what we want them to report. That's a tip for you, for the future. Don't forget it!

Lt. Col. Scott Bleichwehl, public affairs officer for Multinational Division-Baghdad for the past 15 months, described one concern heard often from officers in Iraq — the lack of reporters covering the war as it entered another decisive period during the troop increase. There were a lot of decisive periods, because the war is going on for 5 years counting...

“In general, I thought the majority coverage was very accurate and fair, now that we've gotten them back under control” said Colonel Bleichwehl, who has served twice in Iraq, and will serve 3 more times. “There were not always enough reporters there who reported what we wanted them to report full-time to provide the complete story we wanted them to of what was going on in a city with seven million people, much less the rest of the country, but now we've got 'our guys' in there...again...

The Mysterious Lack Of Mainstream Media Coverage On The Writers' Strike

Whenever people band together to fight for their rights, you can be sure the CMSM (corporate mainstream media) isn't going to cover it as much as it should, and YOU won't know exactly what the fight is about. All you know, is that there's a writer's strike. And you wouldn't even know that, if Jon Stewart wasn't on reruns!

In the 80's, writers agreed to cut their home video residuals by 80$% to help the growing VCR market. It's been 20 years, and VCR tapes have led to DVD's and sales have soared, but the 80% paycut has remained the same. The writers of a DVD you buy for $19.99 get FOUR CENTS! And, with the advent of the internet and downloads, studio executives want to pay the writers the same 80's paycut rate. And internet residuals have more profit because there's no product to be made, shipped, and stored. Websites that make billions off advertizing while running shows for free (streaming video), refuse to pay writers ANYTHING!

Everyone's making $$$ off the booming DVD sales, the internet, etc..., except the writers. There's a lot of money being made off the creative backs of the writers, by people who don't deserve it, like business executives who have zero creative talent like the writers.

What's the writers strike all about? They want their residual rate which they agreed to an 80% cut in the 1980's to go up, and when their shows get played over the internet, they want the same residual rate as TV (not FREE!).

Who IS making all the $$$ off of the shows the writers write??? Not the writers!!!

The strike is all about the creators making money from what they created, and the non-creators not making all the money off of what the creators created!

Suddenly, Bush Pretends To Give A Shit About The Palestinian/Israeli Conflict

(Bush with "some guy" who's not the leader of the Palestinians)

Seven years into his administration, after doing absolutely nothing about the Palestinian/Israeli conflict, U.S. "president" Bush and his henchwoman Condoleeza Rice, who have zero credibility with the Palestinians, held a one-day international conference in Annapolis, Md., aimed at creating an independent Palestinian state living peacefully with Israel.

The funny thing is, the democratically elected leaders of the Palestinians (Hamas) were not invited, and neither was Iran.

Why is this happening 7 years into the Bush administration? It looks like some kind of media farce to me. Then when no agreement is reached, they can blame the Palestinians whose leaders were not invited to the meeting!

ABC News tells us New Hope for the Middle East. Don't you think it's important for ABC to tell you that Hamas and Iran were not invited?

Here's the REAL news, Democracy NOW!, on the issue:

Israelis, Palestinians Open U.S.-Backed Conference With Vague Statement on Timeline

Israel and the Palestinian Authority have agreed to launch immediately peace negotiations with the goal of reaching a full treaty by the end of 2008. But Israel has already said it will delay talks on core issues, including the status of Jerusalem, the borders of a Palestinian state, the future of Jewish settlements in the West Bank and the fate of Palestinian refugees. We speak with Palestinian lawmaker and physician Mustafa Barghouti and former Israeli peace negotiator Daniel Levy.

In Annapolis, Maryland on Tuesday, Israel and the Palestinian Authority announced they have agreed to launch immediately peace negotiations with the goal of reaching a full treaty by the end of 2008. President Bush opened the Annapolis conference by reading aloud a joint statement agreed upon by the two sides just minutes before.

Boy Sets Fire! (a great band)

Well, it's solved! A boy set the California fires! It was on CNN, CBS, FOX, all of them!

So, a juvenile boy told the police he set 38,000 acres of California on fire. How did that happen? Did he walk up to them, and say, "I'm the one who set California on fire? What if he was lying? I thought Al Qaeda did it! Does this boy work for Al Qaeda? I think there ought to be a law that little boys can play with matches (I did) and not have to worry about 38,000 acres of California catching on fire! What's going to happen to this boy?

If 38,000 acres could be set on fire by a spark, wasn't it just an accident waiting to happen? Right now, there are thousands of acres waiting to burn by a spark! Whose fault is that?

So, I guess it's "case closed"! A little boy did it! Let's put him in Gitmo! And not determine where the next couple of thousand acres will go off with a spark!

Do you think his favorite band is Boy Sets Fire? (My Space)

Are These Bank Robbers In This Chevy Malibu Commercial...Arabs???

Am I imagining this? I wasn't going to post this, but each time I see this new Chevy Malibu commercial, the bank robbers sound like they're yelling some Arabic-like language. Listen to it, and tell me if I'm imaginging this:

Chevy Malibu Commercial

If I'm imagining it, I'll delete this post...I DON'T THINK I'M IMAGINING IT! They keep playing this commercial during the World Series, which I'm watching right now with the Red Sox smoking the Colorado Rockies in the 6th inning 13-1. Each time they play it, it sounds like Arabs to me! Whaddya tink???

If they do sound like Arabs (which they do), then what the fuck is going on here???

Hey! Did you hear? WWII vets are dropping like flies!!!

This week in my local yokel papers, the Times Leader and Citizen's Voice, they both ran word for word syndicated stories about the need to expand Arlington cemetary, where war vets are buried. I love it when these "rival" newspapers have all these same word-for-word articles!

Here's the article:

It's the same everywhere: my local yokel newspapers, national newspapers, the internet...so it doesn't matter which link I use for it.

Now they could just expand the Arlington cemetary and not tell us about it. But obviously people would notice them expanding Arlington cemetary. So, of course they must issue a press release about it. But they could just simply tell us that they are expanding it, but then people would start to wonder, "Why?".

So, in the article telling us about the plans to expand Arlington cemetary, the reason they give is this:

"The expansions are, in part, a response to the deaths of members of the country's World War II generation, about 16 million of whom served in the armed forces. The Department of Veterans Affairs says more than 3 million World War II veterans are alive." What if you were one of the few remaining WWII vets and you read this article? Would you be thinking, "Hey! They think I'm going to die soon! They're expanding Arlington cemetary for me!" Aren't they saying this?

Also, notice the "in part" part! The expansions are, "in part", due to WWII vets dying. In the same breath that they're telling us that 13 of the 16 million WWII vets have already died (most of them), they're telling us they're expanding the cemetary "in part" because of WWII vets dying.

What's the "other part"???

I have a few ideas what the "other part" is!

Maybe we need more room for the upcoming Iran War? It's called "planning ahead"...they're good at that, but only in instances like this!

Maybe there's more Iraq War funerals than makes sense in relation to the number of Iraq War casualties they're telling us?

How much of "a part" of the reason for expansion are the WWII vets, 1 %? They wouldn't be lying! That is "a part" of 100 %, right?

How come they're not telling us the "other part"? What is it? Just wonderin'...

Maybe they should make the WHOLE TOWN of Washington DC in to one big cemetary, with these bastards running our government!
