(Guy, above, defends multi-million dollar pay, while heading company that went in the tank! "My pay went down from $$$500 ga-jillion to $$$400 ga-jillion!!! I'm suffering from this economy, too!!!)

Three corporate executives called in for a shaming by Democratic lawmakers Friday defended raking in hundreds of millions of dollars despite contributing to the subprime mortgage crisis that has their companies reeling from losses and the nation on the edge of recession.

The McCain Watch: 3rd term of Bush, if you vote for McCain...AND YOU DESERVE WHAT YOU GET!

WHAT DID BUSH DO FOR YOU? ANSWER THAT QUESTION!

● President Bush is poised to veto legislation that would bar the CIA from using waterboarding - a technique that simulates drowning - and other harsh interrogation methods on terror suspects. (bd: NOTICE! This AP article does NOT mention that McCain voted AGAINST this bill and FOR torture, even though he was captured and supposedly tortured during the Vietnam war! McBush!!! That's what McCain is: BUSH FULL LAGER, NOT BUSH "LITE"!

● Update: How do you do something unAmerican, like veto a bill that bans torture? You say, "I'm helping you! It's for your safety! It's to make you safe! It's to stop terrorism!" McBush is for torture! Unbelievable! Maybe YOU will be next! McCain voted AGAINST this bill which bans torture! It got past the Republicans in the Senate, and Bush vetoed it!

● The Nation: I don't know whether Senator John McCain had sex with lobbyist Vickie Iseman, but I do know, first hand, that he broke the rules while doing the bidding of media mogul Lowell "Bud" Paxson, a major contributor to McCain's 2000 presidential campaign. McCain's staff lied it about it then and they are inventing new lies even now.

Bush's 'unitary executive' doctrine places Bush above the law; 1) Bush has decreed an end to habeas corpus 2) Bush has denied other basic rights guaranteed the people in the Bill of Rights. 3) In effect, Bush has re-written the US Constitution.....The wealthy have always used many methods to accumulate wealth, but it was not until the mid-1970s that these methods coalesced into a superbly organized, cohesive and efficient machine. After 1975, it became greater than the sum of its parts, a smooth flowing organization of advocacy groups, lobbyists, think tanks, conservative foundations, and PR firms that hurtled the richest 1 percent into the stratosphere.

Vanity Fair Bombshell!!! After failing to anticipate Hamas’s victory over Fatah in the 2006 Palestinian election, the White House cooked up yet another scandalously covert and self-defeating Middle East debacle: part Iran-contra, part Bay of Pigs. With confidential documents, corroborated by outraged former and current U.S. officials, David Rose reveals how President Bush, Condoleezza Rice, and Deputy National-Security Adviser Elliott Abrams backed an armed force under Fatah strongman Muhammad Dahlan, touching off a bloody civil war in Gaza and leaving Hamas stronger than ever.

● William F. Buckley Jr. is dead. The demise of the ex-CIA man-turned-pundit sparked a shameless wave of over-the top media encomiums for the longtime publisher of National Review, a so-called “conservative” journal many suspected had been (from the beginning) no more than a stylish—if boring—CIA “front.”

● For more than 40 years, the brave survivors of the USS Liberty have tried telling the world what happened to them on June 8, 1967, when Israel sneak attacked the nearly defenseless ship for over an hour with as many as 1,000 rockets, tens of thousands of armor-piercing rounds and five torpedoes. For the most part, the American media has yawned and decided to cover the latest Hollywood scandal or some other nonsense. Now survivors of the Liberty will not be forced to beg a criminally incompetent media to tell the truth about what they have endured. The USS Liberty survivors have their own live radio program, appearing on the Republic Broadcasting Network at www.republicbroadcasting.org.

(Tim, me, & Karin...I'd like to add, that Times Leader reporter Rory Sweeney & photographer Pete Wilcox were extremely nice, and a lot of fun to talk to!)

● Grier urges voter registration. Nanticoke bar hosts area activist in addition to voter sign-up party. By Rory Sweeney. This might be the first article about Tim Grier where county politics aren’t the focus. Pete g. wilcox photos/the times leader. Asked to make somewhat of a celebrity appearance on Friday at B.F. J’Eat for a voter registration party, Grier spent much of the time sipping coffee, kibitzing with other local activists and fiddling with a webcam of the bar and restaurant tucked away on Front Street in the Hanover section of town.

● WILKES-BARRE – The state Department of Public Welfare has proposed cutting $1 million and 12 caseworker positions from Luzerne County Children and Youth’s 2008-09 budget, frustrating agency officials who say they are struggling to make adjustments to ensure abuse cases are investigated quickly. Frank Castano, the agency’s director, said he learned of the budget cut last Tuesday – the same day he was verbally notified the agency’s license had been downgraded, in part, because it had not acted quickly enough to ensure the safety of several children under its care.
