Big Dan's Big News April 10, 2009

"Liberal media" isn't calling Republican Norm Coleman a "sore loser", like they did to Al Gore in 2000.

From the New York Times to AP to MSNBC, and even Democracy Now! et al, despite all countable ballots having now been counted, and clear rulings having been issued by both the MN Supreme Court and the bipartisan three-judge panel overseeing the contest, the media seem to have developed an aversion to using the "L" word --- loser --- in their coverage of the MN contest. Perhaps it's because they're listening to only one side of the argument (Coleman's), but the facts of the case, and the many clear court decisions, leave no question that Franken is the winner, and Coleman is the loser. So why won't they say so?...

Franken Isn't 'Leading'; He Won and Coleman Lost. With a 312 vote victory for the Democrat, and nothing left to count, the corporate media continues to misreport the facts of the U.S. Senate election in Minnesota...

The striking difference in the corporate media coverage of the two races, where Florida 2000 was both much closer and, as it would determine the Presidency of the United States, arguably more 'important' to get right, and yet the constant media framing continuously painted Al Gore as a "sore loser" for not bowing out 'gracefully' or 'admitting defeat' in the days following the razor-thin election.

Norm Coleman's a sore loser. Why won't the press say so?

Something is Rotten at PBS

Reid traveled around America, interviewing patients, doctors, and health insurance executives. The documentary that resulted – Sick Around America – aired Monday night on PBS. But even though Reid did the reporting for the film, he was cut out of the film when it aired this week. And the film didn’t present Reid’s bottom line for health care reform – don’t let health insurance companies profit from selling basic health insurance.

# 12 Bush Profiteers Collect Billions From No Child Left Behind
Source:
Diatribune and Daily Kos, March, 30, 2007
Title: “Bush Profiteers Collect Billions From NCLB”
Author: Mandevilla

Researchers: Alan Scher and Sam Burchard

Faculty Evaluator: Karen Grady, PhD

The architect of No Child Left Behind (NCLB), President Bush’s first senior education advisor, Sandy Kress, has turned the program, which has consistently proven disastrous in the realm of education, into a huge success in the realm of corporate profiteering. After ushering NCLB through the US House of Representatives in 2001 with no public hearings, Kress went from lawmaker—turning on spigots of federal funds—to lobbyist, tapping into those billions of dollars in federal funds for private investors well connected to the Bush administration.

Creepy anti-gay marriage ad:

Bizarre sentences that make no sense, like: "they're taking away my freedom" (the freedom to tell others they can't get married?), "they want to bring the issue into my life" (how are gays getting married, bringing anything into their life?), they "want to change the way I live" (how? how are gays getting married changing the way you live?), "I will have no choice" (what does that mean? choice of what? are they "pro-choice"?). I don't get it! Weird, creepy! Storms! Dark clouds! Be afraid! They're going to take away your guns, too! Shouldn't they be called the "National Organization Against Marriage"? This is the same thing as those traitorous ads against health care for all in the 1990's. Let me take a wild guess and say these creeps are Republicans. You know, the party that says they're for liberty and against big government, but they're always telling everyone they can't get married, smoke pot, use contraception, etc...

See if you can make any sense out of this:

* There's a storm gathering...
* The clouds are dark, the wind is strong...
* And I am afraid...
* Some who advocate for same-sex marriage are taking the issue far beyond same-sex couples...
* They want to bring the issue into my life...
* My freedom will be taken away...
* I'm a California doctor who must choose between my faith and my job...
* I'm part of a NJ church group punished by the government because we can't support same-sex marriage...
* I'm a Massachusetts parent helplessly watching public schools teach my son that gay marriage is OK...
* But some who advocate for same-sex marriage have not been content with same-sex couples living as they wish...
* Those advocates want to change the way I live...
* I will have no choice...
* The storm is coming...
