Big Dan's Big News May 5, 2010

Lou Barletta would fit in well down South in the Confederate States of America

Here's Lou Barletta telling you he's FOR Arizona's unconstitutional racial profiling law. He already tried something similar in Hazleton and it was struck down as...get ready...UNCONSTITUTIONAL! And he's at it again! Even though he fully knows this is UNCONSTITUTIONAL! So do we want to put this embarrassing IDIOT on the national stage and have the rest of the United States think we're a bunch of HICKS up here like Arizona???

Barletta: "I commend Governor Jan Brewer of Arizona for signing into law what her courageous legislators passed."

Lou Barletta strongly supports Arizona law against illegal immigration

Stop Lou Barletta: NO PROBLEM-O!!!!!!!

Lou Barletta: Swing to the Right

Phoenix Suns will wear ‘Los Suns’ jerseys as partly a political statement against ‘flawed’ state law.

Next up from Arizona: How about Governor Joe Arpaio?

Study - The Confederate States that are racial profiling ALSO are attacking women's rights. The percentages of white women abortions in the Confederate States are much higher than the actual percent of white women in those Confederate States. Therefore, are the white men in the Confederate States attacking white women's right to choose, so there's more white voters in those states? It goes hand-in-hand:

Why Now?: Abortion, Immigration, and Racism

This information does seem to go hand-in-hand with this article I posted a few days ago:

The good ole USA!!! Bad in health care and motherhood rankings worldwide...but we always have enough $$$ to bomb someone!!! We care more about bombing other countries than health care and motherhood rankings. The United States has scored poorly on a campaign group's list of the best countries in which to be a mother, managing only 28th place, and bettered by many smaller and poorer countries.

“The entire government is basically privatized,” Scahill went on. “In fact, 100 percent of people in this country that make $100,000 or less might as well remit everything they owe in taxes to contractors rather than paying the government. That is how privatized the society is, that is how much of government has been outsourced in this society."

FAT, out of shape cops now think it's easier to TAZE someone (only 1% die) than to chase them down:

Excessive force? Phillies fan Tasered after running onto field

Anyone who reads this blog knows I am against Tasers. Tasers have killed hundreds of people. Collateral damage is "OK" now? What the fuck is wrong with this country? It's "OK" if 1% of the people get killed by Tasers? Tasers are popular for ONE reason: someone's making $$$ off them. Did they ask we citizens if Tasers were "OK"? Were you asked to vote on them? They're going to use them on you! I heard on the radio that 99% of the time there's no damage. Oh, only 1% die? That's all? This 17 year old kid gets TAZED at a Phillies game, and I hear people saying FUCKING IDIOTIC THINGS like: "Well, what are we going to do, just let everyone run around the field?" (so before Tasers, everyone was running around the field???), "99% of the time it does no damage" (if it isn't 100%, I'm against cops MURDERING citizens with Tasers, call me crazy!!!). I heard a radio show host say, "He could've had a gun!!!" (ANYONE can have a gun ANYWHERE, ASSHOLE!!!) Just wait until YOU, the taxpayer, start paying millions of dollars in fines for cops killing people with Tasers! Do you think the cops pay for it out of their wallet? YOU pay for it!!! Here's my famous 50 video TASER montage, listen to the ASSHOLE reporters in the first video YUCKING IT UP about the kid at the Phillies game getting excessive force used on him and FALSELY saying the Phillies players were LAUGHING:

  4. In a two-step effort to contain a spewing Gulf of Mexico oil well, BP on Tuesday attached a shut-off valve to one leak and said that today it will begin transporting the first of two giant containment structures meant to corral two remaining leaks at the site.

Doug Suttles, chief operating officer of BP, said in a conference call Tuesday that robotic vehicles working undersea were able to cut off the end of the drill pipe and install a valve over the six-inch-wide pipe, which is sitting on the ocean floor in 5,000 feet of water. The next challenge for the remotely operated vehicles will be to crank the valve shut to close one of the three leaks that together are releasing 210,000 gallons of oil into the water each day. Closing the valve won't reduce the flow of oil into the Gulf of Mexico, Suttles said, but it will reduce the number of sites that BP has to worry about.

Efforts to seal the remaining two leaks will take a big step forward at noon today when the first "coffer dam" built over the past few days at a fabrication yard in Golden Meadow begins its 12-hour journey to the accident site. The four-story, crypt-like structure will be lowered onto the seabed by Transocean Ltd.'s 835-foot drill ship Discovery Enterprise, isolating one of the remaining two leaks from the ocean around it. Mudflaps will keep the 70-ton coffer dams from sinking more than a few feet into the ocean floor, BP spokesman Toby Odone said.

Coffer dams don't actually stop the oil from flowing, but rather allow BP to contain the oil and keep it out of the Gulf of Mexico while a permanent fix is underway. The long-term solution is for BP to drill a "relief well" or second pathway to the original well pipe, and inject a liquid that is more dense than oil to stop it. Just as the original well took a few months to drill, Odone said, it will take two to three months to drill the relief well through the rocky ocean floor and intersect the original well.

Once the coffer dams are in place, BP will attach a drill pipe to their tops that will connect to the Discoverer Enterprise, and if all goes well, pressure will make any oil and gas in the well flow up the chimney, because the petroleum is lighter than water. The ship will capture the oil and transfer it to a shuttle tanker on loan from the Brazilian oil company Petrobras, which will transfer it to shore. Any gas that comes up the pipe would be burned off.

The first coffer dam should reach the accident site around midnight tonight, Suttles said. It will take another 48 hours to lower it onto the ocean floor and get it properly situated, and then a few more days before oil begins bubbling up to the drill ship.

Since it's always dark in 5,000 feet of water and the remotely operated vehicles are equipped with lights, Odone said the work will proceed 24-hours a day.

    ========================

BP has managed to seal the smallest of the three leaks spilling oil into the Gulf of Mexico, the company says.

Oil is still gushing into the sea at a rate of about 800,000 litres a day, but officials say working with only two leaks makes tackling the spill easier.

  17. PORT FOURCHON, La. -- Officials say the calm winds in the Gulf of Mexico have allowed crews to burn off some of the oil that has fouled the water since a rig exploded more than two weeks ago.

BP PLC chief operating office Doug Suttles confirmed Wednesday that the burning was taking place. Officials say they have also been skimming the oil and using dispersants.

Coast Guard Rear Adm. Mary Landry says the rainbow sheen is the leading edge of the oil spill and is very close to the coastline. But she says heavier concentrations are farther offshore.

Landry says state and local communities are rallying to prepare for landfall to protect the coast.

While crews are trying to clean up the spill, a ship is preparing to take a giant containment box to the leak site to try to stem the spill.

  18. San Antonio, Texas- A large fire is burning at an AGE Refinery, in San Antonio, Texas reports said.

People on the ground in San Antonio said that an 18-wheeler blew up at the oil refinery.

The explosion could be heard across the city, reports said.

The AGE Refinery truck explosion and fire happened shortly before 11.30am local time on San Antonio’s south east side.

Police in the area were shutting down roads up to 5 miles around the refinery. Buildings including apartments and businesses within 1 mile of the refinery were being evacuated.

A spokesperson for AGE told local TV: “A truck exploded as it was placed on a loading rack.”

There were up to 60 workers on scene at the time of the refinery truck explosion, local media said.

There was no word on casualties or more information on damage yet. It was not clear if the fire had spread to other parts of the refinery.

They were attired in the baggy, way too low, boxer short exposing, pants style.
Such attire was recently banned at the mall.

Last night he was at the city council meeting to receive a city award for attaining Rookie of the Year.
Former Kings player and current Sacramento Mayor gave a little speech joking about the incident and announced that the council members had come to Tyreke's rescue as they all brought out belts to give to him!

    ~snip~
"The number of Tasers in the hands of police have grown to 375,000 worldwide," writes Patrik Jonsson, "and the blowback -- from 'Don't tase me, bro!' to a reported 300 deaths -- has been significant. ... To some, the tasering incident in Philadelphia is indicative of a perceived escalation of threat against police -- and how the media has perhaps laid the groundwork for acceptance of Tasers by overhyping that fear."
    ~snip~
Rapping blamed the exaggerated fears on the media, which "leads people to think that the most dangerous people in the world are young kids at a baseball game, when really the most dangerous people are CEOs and government regulators who endanger lives and jobs.'"

  34. The 98-ton, four-story container that BP hopes will take care of the main oil leak was loaded onto a barge in Port Fourchon, La., on Wednesday in preparation for its journey to the well.
    -----------

BATON ROUGE, La. — With remote-controlled robots a mile underwater unable to seal the gushing well, and with the drilling of relief wells that would allow crews to plug the spouting cavity months away from completion, it is time for the big box. The end of the oil spill, or at least the end of much of the oil leaking into the Gulf of Mexico, may soon be delivered by a 98-ton steel box standing four stories tall, with a fresh coat of white paint.

The containment dome, as engineers are calling the structure, was built over the past week by a crew of more than two dozen welders working around the clock at a shipyard in Port Fourchon, La. On Wednesday, the dome began its journey to the site of the ruptured well, where it will be lowered by cable 5,000 feet beneath the sea to sit atop the larger of the two remaining leaks.

The dome will not shut off the gushing well, which is still spilling an estimated 210,000 gallons of oil a day; the goal is just to keep some of the oil out of the water by capturing it and then funneling it to a drill ship, called the Discoverer Enterprise, waiting on the surface.

Think of the dome as an inverted cup gathering the gushing oil, and the drill pipe as a straw carrying it to the surface. If it sounds simple, it is not. Containment domes have been used in shallow water, but never at this depth.

    http://www.nytimes.com/2010/05/06/science/06container.html?hp

    ReplyDelete
  35. Not simple at all...

Despite the hopes placed on the big box, questions remain: Can it withstand the conditions nearly a mile beneath the sea? Will ice plug up the pipe? Will bad weather interrupt the work? Will the combination of gas, oil and water mix uneasily — or explosively — on the ship above? Add global scrutiny to the mix, and you have some anxious engineers.

“I’m worried,” said David Clarkson, BP’s vice president for project execution, “about every part.”

BP engineers in Houston have sketched out models to account for what they expect to happen in this novel approach, along with several contingency plans. To combat the ice, which is likely to form as gas bubbles out of the oil, engineers will inject warm water along the pipe, and methanol into the oil.

But as so many other response efforts so far have shown, engineering problems that can be solved on the ground can prove perilously stubborn 5,000 feet underwater.
