Big Dan's Big News March 28, 2010

BP's "top kill" method of stopping the oil spill does NOT seem to be working...

The oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico may have apocalyptic consequences, a report by the Russian Ministry of Natural Resources said.

Oil spill threatens 'total destruction'

(excellent comments below from BDBB commenters.....I sort of mushed them together and put them here. You know my blog policy: I STEAL everything and give NO CREDIT!!! TOUGH SHIT!!! I will give "attribution", if someone threatens me...and I take it somewhat seriously........)

New hole found in the riser tube. It seems the riser tube is becoming perforated like Swiss cheese. Is the inside wall wearing away to tissue paper thickness ? This is the first kink in the riser tube just above the BOP. How long will it be that the riser tube totally disintegrates and a full force/full pressure blowout of methane gas and heavy crude oil goes gushing into the Gulf of Mexico. If this happens - then we will see an ecological catastrophe beyond all comprehensions.

The hole farthest to the right, with the darkest material coming out, was barely noticeable when the first started showing this image. Now it matches the other holes in material coming out.

And that begs the question - what is coming out? Why is every stream a different color? WTF?

And why are they no longer showing video of the end of the tube where the inserted the new tube to collect the oil?

New under water plume found to the west - miles wide, but no measurements yet - too big to survey. This is addition to the 3,000 foot thick, 6 mile wide and 22 mile long plume of oil and dispersants discovered yesterday to the east of the leak.

La. scientist locates another vast oil plume in the gulf

Right now, at the live feed, that new hole appears to be leaking the most. In fact all of the leaks appear larger than the ones in the photo at Anony's link!

How much more can that pipe take before it blow completely?

After staring at the video for awhile I count 7 holes in the pipe. 2 are in the background, one behind the plume on the right and one behind the plume second from the right.

And I still want to know what is going on at the end of the pipe - that is all they showed us for the last week, now nothing.
Why did they not show us then the leak they are showing now?

Still hiding something???

The prices here in Sacramento have dropped $0.24 in the last couple of days. The cheapest stations were at $2.99 for regular last weekend, now at $2.75. Some stations had been as high as $3.19 for regular.

More evidence that oil prices are rigged (note how they are not going up on a major holiday - for the first time, ever):

  7. The British Petroleum oil spill is threatening the entire eastern half of the North American continent with "total destruction," reports say.

An ominous report by Russia's Ministry of Natural Resources warned of the impending disaster resulting from the British Petroleum (BP) oil and gas leak in the Gulf of Mexico, calling it the worst environmental catastrophe in all of human history, the European Union Times reported.

Russian scientists believe BP is pumping millions of gallons of Corexit 9500, a chemical dispersal agent, under the Gulf of Mexico waters to hide the full extent of the leak, now estimated to be over 2.9 million gallons a day.

Experts say Corexit 9500 is a solvent four times more toxic than oil.

The agent, scientists believe, has a 2.61ppm toxicity level, and when mixed with the warm waters of the Gulf of Mexico, its molecules will be able to “phase transition.”

This transition involves the change of the liquid into a gaseous state, which can be absorbed by clouds. The gas will then be released as “toxic rain” leading to “unimaginable environmental catastrophe” destroying all life forms from the “bottom of the evolutionary chart to the top,” the report said.

  8. I don't know if I ever said this previously, but Tears of a Clown is a PERFECT song sung by a PERFECT singer:

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hxj1hP3dxdg&feature=related

Just unbelievable, an unbelievable song (written by Smokey) by an unbelievable singer.

    Oh yeah yeah yeah

Now if there's a smile on my face
It's only there trying to fool the public
But when it comes down to fooling you
Now honey that's quite a different subject
But don't let my glad expression
    Give you the wrong impression
Really I'm sad, oh I'm sadder than sad
You're gone and I'm hurtin' so bad
Like a clown I pretend to be glad

Now there's some sad things known to man
But ain't too much sadder than
The tears of a clown, when there's no one around
    Uh hum, oh yeah baby

Now if I appear to be carefree
It's only to camouflage my sadness
And honey to shield my pride I try
To cover this hurt with a show of gladness
But don't let my show convince you
That I've been happy since you
Decided to go, oh I need you so
I'm hurt and I want you to know
But for others I put on a show, ooh yeah

    {repeat CHORUS}

    Just like Pagliacci did
I try to keep my surface hid
    Smiling in the public eye
But in my lonely room I cry
    The tears of a clown
When there's no one around, oh yeah, baby baby
Now if there's a smile on my face
    Don't let my glad expression
    Give you the wrong impression
Don't let this smile I wear
Make you think that I don't care
When really I'm sadIm hurting so bad

The Sacramento Bee (McClatchy) had a large article today on the other plume to the east which was found earlier in the week, but no mention of this second one. Also as of the report yesterday they hadn't found the edges of the second plume so they couldn't judge its size. Nothing more today regarding the size. Are they still looking for the perimeter?

  22. Now the video has started playing. What is this leak?

It is coming from a single source and is initially jet black, but turns to the tan color we have been assuming to be drill mud in the previous views.

Now I wonder if it has been oil the whole time with it's color distorted by the intense lighting from the robot filming the leak.

Latest oil movement predictions from the University of Southern Florida show it is in the loop current and reaching the point where the loop merges with the gulf coast!

BP exec says end point for leak is relief well
    The Associated Press

WASHINGTON -- A BP executive says a relief well is the "end point" of efforts to stop the Gulf oil spill - which suggests there's little chance of plugging the leak until the new well is completed in August.

BP managing director Bob Dudley tells ABC's "This Week" that the current attempt to cap the leaking well would at best minimize the oil flowing into the Gulf of Mexico.

Dudley says the relief well expected to be ready at the end of August "is certainly the end point on this game."

  45. The British oil company and its drilling contractor, Transocean, sank the deepest oil well ever known. The $365 million rig that accomplished this feat was called the Deepwater Horizon, a floating thicket of machinery the size of two football fields, which held a crew of 130 and cost more than half a million dollars a day to rent from Transocean.

Transocean is a Swiss based company. The Deepwater Horizon BOP ( Blowout Preventer) was made by Cameron International.
Investigations are on going into charges of a Faulty, or sabotaged BOP that caused the The Macondo well blowout, in the Gulf of Mexico.

    BOP made in CHINA.

  46. The use of oil dispersants - specifically designed to conceal from any visual awareness of the oil damage to the ecosphere/regional economies and to lessen/conceal liability issues of those who caused this out of control oil well gusher.

    ====================================

    ~snip~
But in the world of what could have been, there’s hay, sawdust, crushed volcanic rock, and even kitty litter that could have mulched with the oil on the surface of the Gulf waters, making for easy pick-up.
But, oil industry executives and their confederates in the Obama administration quickly made sure that all spewing oil would either sink well below the surface, or never rise to it, so it could never be vacuumed up or neutralized.
Worse yet, these international criminals of humanity, and life in the Gulf, committed their dastardly deed of deeply submerging the floating oil with an extremely dangerous chemical dispersant that would deny all marine creatures oxygen, thus killing them, and marine plant life to boot, as major underwater currents carry the poisonous oil through-out the Gulf and into the Atlantic.
Trying to give this mass murder a positive spin, BP spokesman John Crabtree said his corporation had dropped more than 560,000 gallons of [toxic] chemical dispersants on the surface slicks and 28,700 gallons of the chemical at the subsea wellhead, 5,000 feet below sea-level.
Crabtree’s justification for such an insane, criminal act was that the dispersants would drive the oil well below the water’s surface, thus keeping it away from coastal shorelines. So instead of removing the oil, BP decided to make the oil even more toxic, and drive it deep into the ocean where it can never be retrieved, but will kill all marine life in its path.
Mandy Joyce, a marine sciences professor at the University of Georgia carefully chose her words about BP’s deplorable dispersants: “Anything that requires oxygen will not be able to survive that water. The food web is going to change. You could stymie the entire production level of the Gulf of Mexico. That’s a very real possibility.”
BP’s chemical dispersants contain 2-butoxyethanol, a compound that kills marine and wildlife, exactly the life our clean-up measures should try to save.
BP’s chemical dispersants, currently being dropped by airplanes, break the crude oil into tiny droplets that sink well below the water’s surface, where they form a giant cloud or plume, making it impossible to gather, as is the obvious intention.

  47. Shell starts production at Perdido - world’s deepest offshore drilling and production facility
    31/03/2010

Shell today produced its first oil and natural gas from the Perdido Development, the world’s deepest offshore drilling and production facility. Located in an isolated, ultra-deep sector of the Gulf of Mexico, Perdido marks a new era in innovation and safely unlocks domestic sources of energy for US consumers. The facility sits in approximately 2,450 metres (8,000 feet) of water, which is roughly equivalent to six Empire State Buildings stacked one atop the other, and will access reservoirs deep beneath the ocean floor. Perdido smashes the world water depth record for an offshore platform by more than 50%.

“Perdido is an impressive project in a strong Gulf of Mexico portfolio that continues to grow,” said Marvin Odum, Upstream Americas Director, Shell Energy Resources Company. “Perdido presented technical challenges unlike we’ve ever seen in the Gulf of Mexico. Shell’s team used its expertise to open this new frontier and confront complex reservoir characteristics, extreme marine conditions, and record water depth pressures. Perdido demonstrates what companies like Shell can do when US federal lands and waters are opened to responsible energy exploration and production.”
