THE "PRETEND" DIFFERENT PARTIES: Democrats & Republicans

If our elections are rigged, then it would make sense that BOTH the Democrats & Republicans, against the wishes of 99% of Americans (the richest 1% are not included), no matter which party was in there, would:
- have us engaged in continuous wars for decades (we are in SIX - count 'em - 6 wars right now, daily bombing of a sovereign nation = "WAR": Afghanistan/Iraq/Pakistan/Libya/Yemen/Somalia),
- bail out Wall St all the time
- outsource our jobs to 3rd world countries
- ruin our environment/food/water
- serve the wishes of a foreign country and speak to them as if they work for them (Israel)
- don't investigate crimes by the other party (Obama says we "must look forward", Pelosi said "impeachment is off the table", etc...),
- when they DID "investigations", have FAKE investigations that are in fact COVER UPS like 9/11, Pat Tillman, Jessica Lynch, Wall St banksters
- commit terrorism on us (saying the debt is our fault and we must "sacrifice" social security, education, health care...but keep the $6 TRILLION dollar wars going, the tax cuts for the rich going, aid to foreign countries going)
- cover up 9/11
- say that WE are responsible for $60,000/each for debt THEY (not US) ran up
- IGNORE voting irregularities and NOT fight for a voting system that EVERYONE would have confidence in
- ALLOW the mainstream media to report FALSE "news" and IGNORE important news
- keep us in constant FEAR from an overblown "terrorist" threat
- keep transferring wealth from 99% of Americans to the 1% richest
- keep chipping away at our liberties creating a police state because of the "terrorist" threat that THEY are overblowing
- warn you not to dig too deep into 9/11 research
- tell us "The Big Lie" evidence-free stories like Muslim hijackers who couldn't fly planes did 9/11 and we just killed Osama Bin Laden.
If elections were rigged, wouldn't BOTH parties act just like they do, and continually do things against our wishes without worrying that they will pay for it "at the ballot box"?
YES, things would be going JUST LIKE THEY ARE RIGHT NOW if our elections were rigged! Obama would betray liberals, and Bush would betray conservatives! NEITHER would do what 99% of Americans want them to do! This is what it would be like! They would NEVER WORRY about their actions, either, and they would continue to do things against OUR interests because they KNOW they wouldn't pay for it "at the ballot box"!
In an atmosphere of doubt about the validity of the voting process, it appears that the entire voting process is a sham, a trick to fool the American people into accepting whatever is done to them by creating the illusion that the people somehow voted for and approved of whatever is being done. That's how Batista fooled the Cuban people. That's how the USSR fooled the Soviet citizens. And that's how the American government fools us.
Do We The People owe that $65 trillion? No, we do not. It was borrowed without our permission. No citizen agreed to repay that money.
Those government officials who borrowed that money and intend that We The People should be forced to repay it can no longer do so on the assumption that they rule with the consent of those who vote.
The best that can be said is that they rule with the consent of those who count the vote.

Perhaps it has not been much of a surprise to learn how intense the
influence was that News International had over Britain's politicians:
the parties, the private meetings in the flat above No 10, the constant
access – one reporter noted how Brooks would walk into Cameron's suite
at Conservative party conference without knocking, as if she were part
of the team – allied with the fear that NI held radioactive dirt on
almost everyone in public life.
Even so, the extent to which
democratically mandated power became supine to the unelected,
unaccountable variety has been arresting. Gordon Brown offered himself
as an example, testifying to the anguish he felt when Brooks put the
health problems of his youngest child on the front page of the Sun –
and yet continuing to treat the editor as a family friend and welcome
house guest.
Maybe that much was known already. What has shocked
more deeply is the extent to which the police force and News
International had become intertwined: the wining and dining, the top
brass of both organisations apparently separated by a revolving door:
ex-cop Andy Hayman moving to NI, ex-editor Neil Wallis moving to
Scotland Yard. No wonder the Met was so lethargic in investigating
hacking: why look too deeply into the affairs of people who represent
either a meal ticket or a future paycheck?
It is this that has stunned even cynical observers who thought they knew how things worked in this country.
A
mighty, wealthy family-run organisation that can effectively buy up
politicians and police officers: we feel we have a word for that, and it
originates in Sicily rather Sydney.
Has Britain now overthrown
this shadow government? Any answer should remember the premature
verdicts delivered during the last two crises to shake Britain: the
shaming of the bankers and the MPs' expenses furore.
Both times, people assumed nothing would ever be the same again – yet things don't look so different now.
Will this revolution end the same way? It's hard to tell; we're still in the middle of it.
All of the discussions were determined by the U.S. government to be

officers to their network. Rees also boasted of recruiting corrupt

foreign officials to further their commercial interests, and it also
penalizes companies that make such illicit payments and then fail to
report them or attempt to conceal them on their balance sheets. Our own
1st Amendment protections might make payments made in the course of
reporting difficult — perhaps even impossible — to prosecute, but not
bribes paid to obstruct justice, as allegedly occurred in the News of
the World case. Moreover, as Sen. Frank R. Lautenberg (D-N.J.), one of
the senators requesting the probe, pointed out to the New York Times
this week, "If indeed bribes were made and were not properly recorded,
this too may be a violation of the law."
News Corp., despite its global reach, is an American company,
headquartered in New York; its shares are traded on our exchange.
Murdoch was born in Australia, but he obtained U.S. citizenship so that
he could further enrich himself by acquiring broadcast properties here.
Having availed himself of American opportunity, he and his subordinates
are now accountable to U.S. law, and there is every evidence that the
chain of culpability for this scandal extends high up into News Corp. As
Niri Shan, a leading London
media lawyer, said, given the extraordinary severity of British libel
law, "it [is] hard to believe that the editor or other people in the
organization didn't know the provenance of the information" Murdoch's
papers illegally obtained.
We Americans owe our most fundamental democratic traditions and respect
for the rule of law to Britain. It would be outrageous if we now stood
idly by and ignored credible allegations that an American company used
our territory as a haven from which to subvert the laws and democratic
processes of our closest cultural and political ally, as Murdoch's firm
allegedly has. Moreover, as Philip Shenon reported in the Daily Beast
this week, federal law enforcement officials have become increasingly
wary of sharing information involving prominent personalities or
celebrities with their British counterparts because of what the
Americans regard as their colleagues' inappropriate relationship with
London's tabloid press.

allowed and what is not allowed in the press,” they wrote, “is a major
step back and is contrary to democratic principles such as freedom of
press as well as universal human rights.”
I agreed then, and still do, but wonder if a similar letter will go
to David Cameron’s center-left government if it attempts to introduce a
media bureau of oversight in Britain. Somehow I doubt it.
Israel’s anti-boycott law is different. Passed this week by the
Knesset, it permits “citizens to bring civil suits against persons and
organizations that call for economic, cultural or academic boycotts
against Israel, Israeli institutions or regions under Israeli control.”
The bill may not pass the high court’s test, and was voted into law with
many members of parliament absent, including the Prime Minister,
Benjamin Netanyahu. The law is much watered down from its original
version, which would have called for criminal charges against
individuals and institutions, not just civil action. Even so, it’s
legislation to try political views in courts of law rather than in
courts of public opinion.
A false note for a free country, if you ask me.
A political act such as a boycott may be a political or moral wrong —
all boycotts against Israel have been, in my opinion — but turning a
moral or political wrong into a civil wrong, let alone a criminal wrong,
injures the country it’s defending. Reducing a freer Israel to an
Israel less free isn’t doing it a favour. I think the 38 members of the
Knesset who opposed the bill understood this, and the 47 who voted for
it didn’t.
Still, Israelis passing bad laws at least have the excuse of feeling
beleaguered, while nouveau democracies like Hungary circle the strange
creature of press freedom like young dogs circle a porcupine: Woof,
sniff, these quills can sting!
Britain’s Prime Minister musing about government oversight is a
different story. It’s a political power grab, at once blatant,
hypocritical and superfluous. If the allegations prove to be true,
Murdoch’s men and women have corrupted police and hacked into computers.
This doesn’t call for new laws, only for upholding old ones. Try thou
shalt not bribe for a start, then expand into thou shalt not burgle.

ReplyDeleteLast Christmas time I was looking on the internet for specifications and reviews of a camera I eventually ended up buying at a local outlet. For the next six months every time I went to Raw Story the columns on both sides of the page were plaster with ads for the camera as well as all kinds of accessories for it.
ReplyDeleteThen recently my wife went online looking at small animal live traps. A trap we had borrowed from the local animal shelter where she volunteers, was stolen and we wanted to replace it. We had borrowed it to catch an injured feral cat. Now every time I go to Raw Story there are camera ads as well as adds for animal live traps.
I know it is a cookie, but finding it isn't all that easy. The last time I cleaned out cookies I lost all kinds of log in information and access to various sites causing me to have to either send for the info or sign up new acounts.

center-left journalists into suppressing conclusions — whether on
health-care reform or other issues — they once would have stated as
demonstrably proven by their reporting.
As for Fox News, lots of people who know better are keeping quiet
about what to call it. Its news operation can, in fact, be called many
things, but reporters of my generation, with memories and keyboards,
dare not call it journalism.

curious given that Houre had just explained to the NYT and Guardian how

same way our government secretly does under the PATRIOT Act.

News, will be more straightforward about their political identity—and
they are likely to bring the rest of the press with them. There will be
liberal papers, radio shows, TV programs, and Web sites for liberals,
and conservative ones for conservatives. This result will hardly be new.
Frankly partisan media have never ceased to be the rule in modern
Europe. Our journalistic culture may soon enough resemble that of early
nineteenth-century America, in which party-owned newspapers presented
selective versions of the truth. News addressed to a particular
niche—not simply in its content but also in its politics—may be the
natural match to an era with hundreds of satellite and cable channels
and limitless numbers of Internet sites.
An age of more purely commercial, more openly partisan media leaves out
some of the functions that news was until recently expected to perform:
giving a broad public some common source of information for making
political decisions, and telling people about trends and events they
didn't already know they were interested in. One way or another,
self-governing societies must figure out the suitable commercial
channels through which the information necessary for democratic
decisions can be spread.
That's not exactly Rupert Murdoch's problem, though he helped make it
the world's. If the pure-market approach doesn't do the job of informing
the country, then eventually another sort of market process might kick
in. Citizens who think they've landed in a vast information wasteland
could ask their representatives to set new rules for the media: rules
that recognize an obligation of the media beyond maximum profit, rules
clear enough to survive interpretation by regulators or appeals courts
with clear ideological agendas. In the long run the press does give the
public what it wants. We're about to see just what that is.

The ranking Democrat, Michigan Congressman John Conyers, complained that
he was prevented from questioning Murdoch about “the connections
between [Fox News chairman and CEO] Roger Ailes and the White House.
What the hell is that all about? It’s like there’s a direct line between
the administration and Ailes. You can see it. There are plenty of
political and policy implications in that.”
As in England, Murdoch and his managers have for many years had their
way with the American regulators and political players who should have
been holding the mogul and the multinational to account. Sometimes
Murdoch has succeeded through aggressive personal lobbying, sometimes
with generous campaign contributions (with Democrats and Republicans
among the favored recipients), sometimes by hiring the likes of Newt
Gingrich (who as the Speaker of the House consulted with Murdoch in the
1990s) and Rick Santorum (who as a senator from Pennsylvania was a
frequent defender of big media companies), sometimes by making stars of
previously marginal figures such as Michele Bachmann.
Former White House political czar Karl Rove, who prodded Fox News to
declare George Bush the winner of the disputed 2000 presidential
election and who remains a key player in Republican politics to this
day, still works for Murdoch, as does former Arkansas Governor Mike
Huckabee, a prospective GOP vice presidential candidate.
But Murdoch is not the rigid partisan some of his more casual critics
imagines. He often discovers unexpected political heroes of
heroines—such as Secretary of State Hillary Clinton,
a former target whose 2000 US Senate run in New York and whose 2008
presidential run earned surprisingly generous coverage from the New York Post
and Fox after Murdoch determined that she was on the rise politically.
The Clinton embrace was classic Murdoch. He plays both sides of every
political divide. But when he is not aiding and abetting the party of
the right he looks for conservative and centrist figures (Britain’s
Blair, America’s Clinton) within traditional parties of the left. The
point, always, is to assure that those with power are pro-business in
general and pro-Murdoch (or, at the least, indebted to Murdoch) in
particular.

How did Murdoch get such favorable treatment from Congressional
committees and regulatory agencies that are supposed to serve the public
interest?
Such an inquiry would, undoubtedly, consider the unsettling tale of
how former Senate minority leader Trent Lott, R-Mississippi, seemed to
lose interest in challenging media consolidation—an issue on which he
had been a good player—after Murdoch’s publishing house offered Lott a $250,000 book deal for the senator’s forgettable memoir, Herding Cats.
It would also consider the strange case of then–Secretary of State
Condoleeza Rice’s decision to take a break from her work at a critical
early stage in the war on terror—on a day when a international outcry
had stirred with regard to a failed attempt to assassinate a key Al
Qaeda leader—to spend a leisurely afternoon briefing Murdoch’s editors from around the world.
But
the most critical focus of any inquiry into Murdoch’s influence over US
political and regulatory players would be on those figures, such as the
slavishly devoted Congressman Sensenbrenner, who remain in positions
where they can do the mogul’s bidding.
No doubt, Murdoch’s misdeeds deserve to be examined—thoroughly, and aggressively.
So, too, however, do the actions of those American politicians and
regulators—Republicans and Democrats—who appear to have been every bit
as obedient to Rupert Murdoch as their British counterparts.
At least six members of Congress this week have called for

including the Wall Street Journal and the New York Post.
News Corporation is based in the U.S., and thus their British papers’
tactics of paying police for information violates the Foreign Corrupt
Practices Act. Beyond that one issue, however, Congress should include
Fox News, Murdoch’s most financially successful U.S. operation and one
that is already infamous for distorting the function of a normal
news-gathering organization into an unofficial-in-name-only mouthpiece
for the Republican Party. Fox News, by the way, has been making news of
its own for its sparse-to-nonexistent coverage of Murdoch’s massive
problems in Great Britain. Some of Fox’s panelists were even caught off-camera
talking about deliberately avoiding the issue. Yeah, that’s a
legitimate news organization, all right, and not a front for right-wing
propaganda. It seems obvious, but any congressional investigation of
News Corporation has to include Fox News.

Now we know why Michael Powell never met a media merger he didn't
like. The chairman of the FCC under George W. Bush (and son of Colin
Powell) replaces Kyle McSlarrow at the National Cable &
Telecommunications Association. McSlarrow last week left the trade group to became Comcast's man in Washington. From the release:

By calling the election for his cousin when he did, Ellis proved instrumental
in turning Bush’s loss in the popular vote into an apparently righteous
struggle to gain the presidency. With a constitutional crisis looming on the
horizon, pundits called for Gore, and not Bush, to be a "patriot" and
concede. In a fair count, without shenanigans or election irregularities, the
Miami Herald estimated Gore would have won Florida by 23,000 votes. The Bush
strategy all along was to prevent a recount and run out the clock — which he
succeeded in doing, eventually winning the state and the presidency by a few
hundred votes. The strategy only worked because Ellis coronated him the winner.
Weeks later, Ellis’ former colleague, Bill Kovach, while defending Ellis’
integrity as a journalist, reported that Ellis had been in telephone contact
with both Jeb and George W. Bush on election night prior to his making the
election call. Even Kovach admitted this was improper.
It’s a clear a conflict of interest for a presidential candidate’s close
and loyal first cousin, the nephew of a former U.S. President, to end up in a
position to call the election for the U.S. national media?
The puzzle comes together quickly. Ellis works for Roger Ailes, the director
of Fox News. Ailes is the former Republican party media consultant who,
according to Time Magazine, engineered Richard Nixon’s 1968 political
resurrection, scripted Ronald Reagan’s 1984 debate comeback and was
responsible for rescuing George Bush Senior’s floundering presidential
campaign in 1988. It was Ailes who coached then candidate Bush Senior’s
campaign performance, prepared him for debates, coordinated his television
advertising, and cooked up the racially divisive Willie Horton campaign,
eventually turning a double digit deficit in the polls into an election day
upset for George Bush Senior. Ailes also served a stint as producer of the Rush
Limbaugh radio show.
He moved over to Fox after being recruited by Rupert Murdoch, the Australian
born founder and CEO of News Corporation, the owner of Fox News. Murdoch, whose
media empire spans 52 countries with primary investments in Canada, the United
States, Britain and Australia, is one of the largest contributors to the
Republican party. In 1996 alone, he gave roughly $1 million to Republican party
campaigns. In 1995 he attempted to give Republican House speaker Newt Gingrich a
$4.5 million "advance" against royalties on a forthcoming Gingrich
authored, Murdoch published book, "To Renew America." The House Ethics
Committee, however, forced Gingrich to return the money.
The specter of the Ellis, Ailes, Murdoch team bearing responsibility for the
miscall that set in motion a Bush team victory script with George W. as heir
apparent to the White House, is, in it’s own right, quite frightening. It is
not, however, out of place, given recent events in Florida.
Let’s not forget that Florida, the key state in deciding the presidential
contest, is run by George W. Bush’s brother, Governor Jeb Bush. The Florida
election is held under the supervision of Florida Secretary of State, Katherine
Harris, a co-chair of the Bush campaign. It was Harris who used her position to
stifle a hand recount and who eventually certified an allegedly incomplete vote
count. Add to this the specter of bizarre "butterfly" ballots and
imprecise 19th century vote tabulating technology (with older
counting machines amassed in minority communities), allegations of police
officers harassing Black voters, and the fact that, under Florida law one third
of the adult African-American male population is barred from voting because of
felony convictions resulting from previous run-ins with the aforementioned
police, and what we see is an electoral system more reminiscent of a corrupt
third world fiefdom, than a supposed industrial democracy. If such an election
transpired in any other country, the world would condemn it.

Demagogues
invariably seek to be autonomous, exercising authority free of

then those who died will have been sacrificed for the vainglorious
ambitions of just two men: Hitler and Bush.
More recently in
America, having learned the lessons of corporatism from Adolph Hitler
whose military adventures were financed by legal abstrations,
specifically I.G. Farben, Thyssen, Krupp et al, the GOP leadership will
conspire with their corporate sponsors to invade sovereign nations for
the purpose of enriching the corporate sponsors. The GOP/corporate
partnership wasted no time. In his second week in office, George W. Bush
created the 'energy task-force' and placed Vice-President Dick Cheney
in charge. As if it had been scripted, Dick Cheney's 'Energy Task Force'
convened to carve up the oil fields of Iraq! And, as conveniently for
Bush as was the Reichstag fire for Hitler, 911 provided the Jr Bush the
pre-text he needed to commit this nation to a war of naked aggression
against the peole of Iraq. It was a war crime for which the architects
must stand trial as did Nazis at Nuremberg.

morning on Fox & Friends, anchor Brian Kilmeade and Sen. Carl Levin
(D-MI) had a heated exchange over Gen. George Casey’s stated plan to
begin redeploying U.S. forces out of Iraq by the end of 2006.
Levin
ended the segment by telling the anchor, “Well, thank you for your
opinion. But I was hoping this would be an interview of me rather than
an interview of you.” Afterwards, Kilmeade was shown scowling and

ReplyDeleteI saw it stated that Rove was in the room with Bush's cousin at FOX News on election night - that Bush's cousin called and spoke to Bush (likely GHW), and that Rove subsequently encourage Bush'd cousin to have FOX prematurely make the call and declare Bush the winner.
ReplyDeleteIf so - this was a strategic plan of Rove's from the outset - to use FOX in the way it was used. He doesn't do ANYTHING by accident.
If true - Rove's presence as a surrogate of GHW's CIA and Shadow Government - having seemingly pre-planned 9/11 - in concert with Rupert's friend, Netanyahu - would represent TREASON.
I'm not saying that's how it happened - or who was actually involved - I'm just raising the prospect of it.
