Big Dan's Big News June 11, 2010

Pentagon 'desperately' searching for Wikileaks founder to prevent him from leaking his latest story.

Anxious that Wikileaks may be on the verge of publishing a batch of secret State Department cables, investigators are desperately searching for founder Julian Assange.

US ‘desperately’ trying to keep Wikileaks from publishing US communications about Arab states

To get a clear picture of what this entails, contrast the Manning case with another example of the administration’s attitude toward security “leaks”: the case of the AIPAC duo, Steve Rosen and Keith Weissman, two top officials of the Israel lobby accused of stealing classified information and of running a spy ring inside the Pentagon that funneled our secrets to Israeli embassy officials. Rosen and Weissman were recorded culling secrets from the Pentagon’s top Iran specialist, Larry Franklin, as they huddled in Washington’s dark corners. Bush’s Justice Department prosecuted the case, which went on for years: one of the first acts of the Eric Holder regime, however, once Obama was inaugurated, was to drop all the charges – in spite of voluminous evidence that the accused had indeed stolen some of our most closely guarded secrets and handed them over to a foreign power.

More on the above Wikileaks story and contrasting it to the AIPAC espionage case that Holder just recently dismissed.

Remember.....Wikileaks just released these videos of the U.S. military killing these people???

Unhealthy Devotion: Inability to Say 'No' is Harmful to U.S., Israel and World Peace

Smuggled film from the Israelis murdering/executing people on the humanitarian aid ship Mavi Marma, including a 19 year old U.S. citizen.

The first thing the Israelis did when they boarded the humanitarian aid boats to Gaza, was confiscate all cameras, video recorders, and any media...so they could control the story. BUT...1 hour of video was smuggled out. The Israeli-occupied U.S. mainstream media isn't showing you this. Here it is:

In a Democracy Now! exclusive, we bring you a sneak preview of previously unseen raw footage from the Mavi Marmara that will be formally released at a press conference at the United Nations later in the day. The footage shows the mood and the activities onboard the Mavi Marmara in the time leading up to the attack, and the immediate reaction of the passengers during the attack. We are joined by filmmaker and activist Iara Lee, one of the few Americans on the Mavi Marmara ship. Her equipment was confiscated, but she managed to smuggle out an hour’s worth of footage.

The most penetrating political interviews on television these days are on Comedy Central. Stephen Colbert's grilling of Michael Oren last night was a classic. Deftly using comedy, Colbert got Oren to essentially admit that the blockade of Gaza is not just about the legitimate issue of restricting weapons getting through to Hamas. It's about collectively punishing the people of Gaza for using a democratic election to back Hamas. It's about turning the 1.5 million people there into helpless dependents on Israeli industry and the impoverishment of any private sector in that beleaguered de facto refugee camp.

  2. There seems to be a difference between Colbert and Stewart on Israeli issues: the other night Stewart roasted Helen Thomas, and Colbert uses comedy to roast Israel. Notice a difference?

  6. Anxious that Wikileaks may be on the verge of publishing a batch of secret State Department cables, investigators are desperately searching for founder Julian Assange. Philip Shenon reports.

Pentagon investigators are trying to determine the whereabouts of the Australian-born founder of the secretive website Wikileaks for fear that he may be about to publish a huge cache of classified State Department cables that, if made public, could do serious damage to national security, government officials tell The Daily Beast.

The officials acknowledge that even if they found the website founder, Julian Assange, it is not clear what they could do to block publication of the cables on Wikileaks, which is nominally based on a server in Sweden and bills itself as a champion of whistleblowers.

  7. Oops,.. the truth must not get out.

    ==============================

An Army intel analyst charged with leaking classified materials also downloaded sensitive diplomatic cables. Are America’s foreign policy secrets about to go online? Philip Shenon reports.

The State Department and American embassies around the world are bracing for what officials fear could be the massive, unauthorized release of secret diplomatic cables in which U.S. diplomats harshly evaluate foreign leaders and reveal the inner-workings of American foreign policy.

Diplomatic and law-enforcement officials tell The Daily Beast their alarm stems from the arrest of a 22-year-old Army intelligence analyst based in Iraq who has reportedly admitted that he downloaded 260,000 diplomatic cables from government computer networks and was prepared to make them public.

“If he really had access to these cables, we've got a terrible situation on our hands," said an American diplomat.

  14. There's a guy on our local radio station, the traffic announcer believe it or not, whose solution to the oil spill is actually being considered by BP, here's some facebook comments about it...the guy's name is Rusty Fender, he does traffic on WILK here in NEPA:

    Webster and Nancy
WILK's own Rusty Fender has submitted...and BP is liking so far...a plan to stop the leak in the Gulf! Did you know Rusty has a master's degree in aerospace engineering? Yeah he does! Will the headline read "Rusty Plugs the Hole"? Will Tom Hanks play him in the movie?!? Go Rusty!

    Anthony Antonello
That's awesome, I was impressed when I heard that yestarday. But on a bad note, I was listening to someone yestarday who was explaining that there is alot more to the story then they're telling us. That the reason they havn't been able to stop it is b/c that oil is coming out at 20-70 thousand PSI, and there's nothing we (humans) have made yet that... See More comes close to handling that kind of pressure. He was saying they might have to use a nuke, even that will take months to get into place, and that it could work. Or it could destroy the planet, so I guess we'll have to wait and see.

  15. His idea is, I'm paraphrasing it, and it would cost $4,000 to $5,000 dollars, drop a hook-like bullet shaped cylinder made out of (not sure what), that couldn't go backwards (phlanged like a hook, so it goes in, but can't come out, think of an anchor).

I'm not saying it exactly perfect the way he described it, but I'll try and find it somewhere.
