Big Dan's Big News May 17, 2010

Israel suppresses Chomsky's free speech, what are they afraid of??? Now you know what I've been saying forever: Israel wants to control what's said about them, and they have ultra control over the U.S. media, too. Their actions here are no different from their actions over what's said about them in the U.S. media.

Denied Entry: Israel Blocks Noam Chomsky from Entering West Bank to Deliver Speech

On Sunday afternoon, Noam Chomsky was stopped by Israeli border guards at the Allenby Bridge border crossing from Jordan. After over three hours of questioning, Chomsky’s passport was stamped with "Denied Entry." He was scheduled to deliver a lecture at Bir Zeit University near Ramallah and was scheduled to meet with Palestinian Prime Minister Salam Fayyad. No reason was initially given for the decision, but the Interior Ministry later told Israeli newspaper Ha’aretz that officials were now trying to get clearance from the Israel Defense Forces. Noam Chomsky joins us now from Amman, Jordan.

Rightwing media about the BP oil spill disacster: "It's natural!" "Where's the oil?" It's not happening!

The thought just crossed my mind: DO FOX "news" VIEWERS EVEN KNOW THERE'S A HUGE OIL SPILL IN THE GULF OF MEXICO??? What if they don't even know it!!! LOL!!! Some polling agent should IMMEDIATELY poll FOX "news" viewers and find out if they know about the oil spill. But they shouldn't phrase it: "Do you know about the oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico???", because that would be a giveaway and they might say "YES". It would have to be phrased something like: "Did you hear about what's going on in the Gulf of Mexico? Then what is it?"...or..."Is there an oil spill somewhere? Then where is it?" No, that would give away that there's an oil spill somewhere.......How about: "Is there something going on out of the ordinary on a large scale in this hemisphere???" ....nah, they wouldn't know what "hemisphere" means........

  6. Ex-NYC top cop to start federal prison term (Bernie Kerik) Updated at 12:08 PM

    Source: WP/AP

    WHITE PLAINS, N.Y. -- Former New York City police Commissioner Bernard Kerik was due to report to federal prison Monday, but he was still claiming he had been wronged.

    Kerik, who pleaded guilty in November to tax fraud, lying to the White House and other counts, was to start a four-year prison term, but the Bureau of Prisons said it would not identify the prison until after he reports.

    In a statement dated Sunday on his website, the former 9/11 hero said he could not remain silent "in the face of what I believe has been a grave injustice." He said he pleaded guilty to eight felonies in November because he was "financially helpless" and could have spent a year behind bars just awaiting trial.

    Kerik's steely resolve as he stood with his mentor, Mayor Rudolph Giuliani, won him worldwide fame after the 2001 terror attacks. His career peaked three years later when he was nominated by President George W. Bush to lead the Department of Homeland Security.

    Interplanetary cruise of Japan's solar-powered 'sail craft' aims at deeper knowledge of Venus
    Justin McCurry in Tokyo guardian.co.uk,
    Monday 17 May 2010 16.26 BST

    Japan hopes to turn the wildest fantasies of science fiction into reality today with a "space yacht" that will draw on the power of the sun to take it to Venus and, perhaps, far beyond.

    A Mitsubishi H-2A rocket carrying Ikaros (an acronym for Interplanetary Kite-craft Accelerated by Radiation of the Sun) is set to blast off from Tanegashima island in south-west Japan at 6.44am local time.

    The long-awaited launch is seen as part of a mission that could change the course of interplanetary exploration.

    If it is successful, Ikaros will be carried through deep space at high speed with the help of a 20-metre sail, propelled by the pressure from solar particles.

    Study: BP Refineries Produce 97% of Violations

    Source: CBS

    (CBS/AP) Two BP refineries in the U.S. account for 97 percent of "egregious willful" violations given by the Occupational Safety and Health Administration, a Washington-based research group said.

    The study by the Center for Public Integrity says the violations were found in the last three years in BP's Texas City refinery and another plant in Toledo, Ohio. In 2005, 15 people were killed in an explosion at the Texas City refinery.

    Deputy Assistant Secretary of Labor for OSHA Jordan Barab says BP has a "systemic safety problem." He told The Associated Press BP has not adequately addressed the issues, despite being fined more than $87 million.

    Assistant Secretary of Labor for OSHA David Michaels says similar problems are pervasive throughout the U.S. petroleum industry.

    Bill to Put Reagan on $50 Bill Opposed by 8 in 10, Poll Shows

    Source: Bloomberg

    Representative Patrick McHenry, a North Carolina Republican, wants Ronald Reagan to replace Ulysses S. Grant on the $50 bill. Almost 8 in 10 Americans oppose the idea, a new poll shows.

    Reagan, a Republican, was the “last great president of the 20th century” who “rallied the nation and won the Cold War,” McHenry said in an interview. McHenry proposed a bill on March 2 seeking to redesign the $50 bill and substitute Reagan’s image for the likeness of the Civil War hero.

    McHenry’s bill is widely opposed, according to a Marist College poll. Seventy-nine percent said the suggestion is a bad idea, compared with 12 percent who supported the plan. Nine percent said they are unsure.

    Eighty-three percent of Democrats oppose the idea and more than 7 in 10 Republicans do not back the switch.

    Maybe why this was said,..

    " BP contracted Schlumberger (SLB) to run the Cement Bond Log (CBL) test that was the final test on the plug that was skipped. The people testifying have been very coy about mentioning this, and you'll see why.

    SLB is an extremely highly regarded (and incredibly expensive) service company. They place a high standard on safety and train their workers to shut down unsafe operations.

    SLB gets out to the Deepwater Horizon to run the CBL, and they find the well still
    kicking heavily, which it should not be that late in the operation. SLB orders the"company man" (BP's man on the scene that runs the operation) to dump kill fluid down the well and shut-in the well. The company man refuses.

    =======================================================================================================================
    =======================================================================================================================
    =======================================================================================================================

    SLB in the very next sentence asks for a helo to take all SLB personel back to shore. The company man says there are no more helo's scheduled for the rest of the week (translation: you're here to do a job, now do it). SLB gets on the horn to shore, calls SLB's corporate HQ, and gets a helo flown out there at SLB's expense and takes all SLB personel to shore.
