Two American girls, believed to be aged 12 and 14, are being hunted by police over a bank robbery.

Two young girls rob bank...Police are hunting two young girls - one believed to be just 12 year-old - who robbed a bank in the middle of the afternoon. The two girls, who were wearing matching blue sweatshirts, calmly walked into the First National Bank i Photo: SPLASH
The young girls walked into a branch of 1st National Bank in Cincinnati, Ohio and handed a note to the cashier demanding money.
According to police the note implied the girls would harm employees if the money was not given to them. They did not appear to have any weapons.
Staff complied and the girls walked out with a bag full of money. They then evaded an extensive police search which included a helicopter and sniffer dogs.
One of the girls was described as heavy set, around 5 feet 4 inches tall, and was wearing a hooded top and blue jeans.
The other was said to be second thin, around 5 feet tall and wearing a baseball cap.
Local police released a grainy black-and-white surveillance photograph of one of the alleged bank robbers.
The robbery took place at 3.20pm on Tuesday and the girls were seen leaving on foot and heading for a nearby housing estate.

NAZARETH, Israel // Health officials in Israel are subjecting many female Ethiopian immigrants to a controversial long-term birth control drug in what Israeli women’s groups allege is a racist policy to reduce the number of black babies.
The contraceptive, known as Depo Provera, which is given by injection every three months, is considered by many doctors as a birth control method of last resort because of problems treating its side effects.
However, according to a report published last week, use of the contraceptive by Israeli doctors has risen threefold over the past few years. Figures show that 57 per cent of Depo Provera users in Israel are Ethiopian, even though the community accounts for less than two per cent of the total population.
About 90,000 Ethiopians have been brought to Israel under the Law of Return since the 1980s, but their Jewishness has subsequently been questioned by some rabbis and is doubted by many ordinary Israelis.
Ethiopians are reported to face widespread discrimination in jobs, housing and education and it recently emerged that their blood donations were routinely discarded.

Like so many awful stories of the past few years, it turns out that these Wall Street vampire-billionaires really exist, literally. Like all vampires, they live in remote castles, and feed themselves by luring poor, desperate humans into their dens, hooking them into blood-pumping machines, and sucking out their plasma for mind-boggling profits.
Cerberus Capital, one of Wall Street’s most notoriously ruthless leveraged-buyout firms (or “private equity firms” in PC-speak), recently made a $1.8 billion killing on their human plasma investment, a company called Talecris, which they bought for a mere $82.5 million just four years earlier. Meaning Cerberus made 23 times their investment on human plasma. They did it by the most savage, heartless means possible: by paying peanuts to their impoverished human plasma donors, who increasingly come from Mexican border towns to blood-pumping stations set up on the American side, jacking up the price of plasma by restricting supply (a lawsuit filed by the Federal Trade Commission accused Cerberus Plasma Holdings of “operat as an oligopoly”), and then selling the refined products to the most desperately ill, patients suffering from hemophilia, severe burns, multiple sclerosis, and autoimmune deficiencies. The products cost so much—one, IVIG (intravenous immunoglobulin) cost twice the price of gold as of last summer -- that American health insurance companies have been dropping or denying their policy holders in increasing numbers, endangering untold numbers.

Shoplifting is on the rise as downturn bites harder

There is now one shop crime every minute - 24 hours a day
Retailers have reported a sharp surge in shoplifting during the recession.
The latest crime survey by the trade body the British Retail Consortium shows thefts by customers jumped by a third between 2008 and 2009.
Violence against staff also increased. Shopkeepers are asking the police to do more to protect them and their stock.
The BRC's research found there were almost half a million thefts - almost one a minute - something they say costs their industry £1.1bn ($1.7bn).
It could be far higher as many crimes are not reported. Pessimists suggest it could even be double this reported rate.

ReplyDeleteA friend and I were returning one night from Lake Tahoe after a skiing trip. We were going up the Hwy 50 grade at a point where on one side was a shear cliff going up from the edge of the road about 25 feet to a very steep slope running to the top of the mountain. The other side of the road was a shear cliff four or five hundred feet to the valley below. As we rounded a curve, what we assumed to be a rock about four feet in diameter came off the cliff above and landed directly in front of the car about 10 feet away. Icy road and no way of stopping or missing it we braced for the crash. Upon contact there was a slight bump and the rock exploded off the front of the car. It was a snowball which had rolled off the slope above. This is a common occurrence in the area after a storm and warm temperatures so the snow is soft and sticky. A lump of snow drops off a tree an the steep slope and starts rolling down the hill, growing as it goes.
