    Germany has triggered a near-panic flight from southern European debt markets by warning that there will be no EU bail-outs, even though it fears the region's economic crisis has turned dangerous and could prove "fatal" for the entire eurozone.

  8. Who forked over the big bucks for this high priced lawyer,.. somebody wants their involvement to remain off the radar screen at all costs.

    ++++++++++++++++++

    Michael J. Madigan, O'Keefe's lawyer, said Wednesday that his client was not trying to wiretap or interfere with Landrieu's phones, but he would not explain why O'Keefe was there. He also would not say whether O'Keefe was working for someone or was on his own.

    Consequently, O’Keefe and pals obviously are not pranksters. Otherwise, Okeefe would not need Madigan.

    +++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

    Michael J. Madigan is a litigation partner in Orrick's Washington, D.C. office. Mr. Madigan has more than 30 years of experience in white collar criminal investigations, congressional and corporate investigations, corporate governance issues and Washington, D.C., legislative and political issues. He began his legal career by serving as a federal prosecutor where he tried more than 100 jury trials, successfully prosecuting murderers, rapists, armed robbers, drug cartels and major fraud cases. At age 30, he served as Counsel to Senator Howard Baker on the historic Senate Watergate Committee. In addition, Mr. Madigan has served as Chief Counsel for Senator Fred Thompson’s Campaign Finance investigation, Counsel to the Church Committee and Minority Counsel of the Senate Intelligence Committee.

    Poll: Voters unaware no GOPers supported Senate health care bill Updated at 6:56 PM

    Most voters were unaware the Senate passed a healthcare bill without a single Republican vote, a new Pew Center study reveals.

    Moreover, even fewer knew how Democrats broke Republicans' filibuster in the days leading up to the Christmas Eve vote, according to the poll, released Friday.

    The Pew Research Center's periodic public knowledge study typically reveals a lack of understanding about some major, national topic. But this month, the doubt seems to center around the health care debate -- specifically, the Senate's handling of it since December.

    Fewer than one in three surveyed voters earlier this month knew that Senate Democrats advanced their bill without a single Republican vote, according to Pew. Additionally, slightly more than one-fourth were aware it took 60 votes to break a filibuster, pollsters found.

    Ultimately, both numbers perhaps add some credence to the president's assertion during Wednesday's State of the Union address that lawmakers have not communicated the health care debate clearly to voters.

  13. Straight from the Plumber reject's mouth himself:

    "I learned from a number of sources that many of Senator Landrieu's constituents were having trouble getting through to her office to tell her that they didn't want her taking millions of federal dollars in exchange for her vote on the healthcare bill. When asked about this, Senator Landrieu's explanation was that, "Our lines have been jammed for weeks." I decided to investigate why a representative of the people would be out of touch with her constituents for "weeks" because her phones were broken. In investigating this matter, we decided to visit Senator Landrieu's district office – the people's office – to ask the staff if their phones were working."

    Then why not ASK and then leave? Why go into the phone closet, huh?
