GENEVA -- European countries are increasingly pegging speeding fines to income as a way to punish wealthy scofflaws who would otherwise ignore tickets.
Advocates say a $290,000 (euro203,180.83) speeding ticket slapped on a millionaire Ferrari driver in Switzerland was a fair and well-deserved example of the trend.
Germany, France, Austria and the Nordic countries also issue punishments based on a person's wealth. In Germany the maximum fine can be as much as $16 million compared to only $1 million in Switzerland. Only Finland regularly hands out similarly hefty fines to speeding drivers, with the current record believed to be a euro170,000 (then about $190,000) ticket in 2004.
The Swiss court appeared to set a world record when it levied the fine in November on a man identified in the Swiss media only as "Roland S." Judges in the eastern canton of St. Gallen described him as a "traffic thug" in their verdict, which only recently came to light.

If they were dark skinned people outside of the membership list of the elite robber baron class,.. how was there a problem ? As I understand, China is interested in growing Jatropha Bio-Fuel in Haiti. This would bring a lot of money to farmers in Haiti.
China is sending 1,000 anti-riot police to Haiti after the quake.
Now all of a sudden the U.S. whats to send "aid" to Haiti when we neglected the country for so long.
Watch us protest China's involvement with Haiti, because the U.S. competitor Sirona Fuels wants to grow Jatropha in Haiti too.

German protesters have demonstrated against the planned introduction of body scanners at airports by stripping down to their underwear and, in some cases, beyond.
The group of protesters, calling itself a 'Fleshmob', converged on Germany's Berlin-Tegel airport this week, writing messages on their bodies and handing out leaflets voicing their concerns about the new scanners' invasion of privacy.
The scanners have been branded "virtual strip searches" because they see though clothing, producing a ghostly naked image.

'Frantic' man breaks windows at office

An office building was evacuated after a disturbed man was seen running around with a baseball bat, police said.
ORANGE – Police are searching a high-rise office building for a disturbed man who was running around the building with a wooden baseball bat, pulling fire alarm handles at One City Boulevard West.
Orange police Sgt. Dan Adams said police received a call at 9:20 a.m. regarding a male who was bleeding and running around one of the floors.

Police are searching floor by floor and Adams said it is unknown if the man is still in the building.
The building was evacuated at approximately 9:50 a.m. All the people who work in the building have been sent home for the day.
One of the entrances to the nearby Block at Orange mall is cordoned off by police tape.
"There is no concern to the general public," Adams said. "This is an isolated incident."
Three windows have been reported broken on the 14th floor. Adams said there is no evidence of a crime other than the broken windows.
Bryan Roth, 23, a file clerk who works at the law firm of Rosen & Rosen on the 14th floor, said the man walked into the firm's office and yelled for everybody to get out, saying there was a fire.

Growing up in Wisconsin I knew to take cover when one of those was rolling in. Things would be dead calm as it approached. The sky would get real eerie as it passed overhead. Just after it passed all hell would break loose - 70-90mph winds with torrential rain.
And the temperature would drop 20-30 degrees.

Doctors Without Borders/Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) medical teams in Port-au-Prince are treating large numbers of people who suffered fractures, head injuries and other major trauma during and after the January 12 earthquake.

See how MSF used inflatable hospitals after the 2005 earthquake in Pakistan. MSF uses inflatable hospitals to provide critical medical care in disaster areas. Portable operating theaters, they can be readied in enormous crates and quickly loaded onto planes. These kits comprise beds, rolling trays, respirators - all the equipment and medicines required to provide effective lifesaving surgery.
More than 1,000 patients have received care in the four tented facilities MSF set up near the damaged buildings in which it had been working. The primary concern at the moment is the overwhelming numbers of people who need immediate treatment and major surgery. An MSF team is beginning to work in the operating theater of a major public hospital in the capital’s Cite Soleil district, while other MSF staff are trying to identify additional medical structures that remain intact.

2008 was the worst year on record for retail sales. News just came out today that retail sales in 2009 closed out the year DOWN 6.2% versus 2008.
We just set a new record by beating the previous worst year on record - 2008.
Yet US stock prices continue to go up. That's right - everything is green shoots on wall street! Keep putting your money in the market......
Also today the CBO comes out and admits unemployment will continue to be high until at least 2012.
Isn't it painfully obvious the rich are playing us for suckers while they continue to extract the last life blood they can from this country before leaving it to crash and burn?
