Fourth of July - we went to see fireworks at Mohegan Sun at Pocono Downs last night, it's about 5 minutes from my house. They had some kind of technical difficulties and it started late. People were getting restless, because I believe it was supposed to start at around 9pm and it was already past 10pm. They were playing all sorts of "USA" songs for the 4th of July over these fantastic outdoor speakers. The speakers were so great, it really blew my mind. Any song with "USA" in it was playing. Because of the technical difficulties, I heard "Living In America" at least 3 times. They kept repeating that particular song while experiencing the difficulties. If I hear "Living In America" one more time, they wouldn't have to worry about Al Qaeda anymore...I was going to blow up the place!!! LOL!!! But anyway, "Living In America" is a great song and, seriously, I love it more than ever after hearing it coming from those speakers. So, after about an hour delay, the fireworks began. They were typical fireworks. Don't get me wrong, they were fantastic, but we love fireworks displays so much, we've seen them all and this was typical...so far. I say "so far", because they began to play "Born In The USA" by Bruce Springsteen right before the "grand finale". Let me tell you, hearing "Born In The USA" coming over those speakers as the grand finale was about to begin choked me up like you wouldn't believe. I have never really given that song much thought, but hearing Bruce Springsteen wailing over those speakers as the fireworks grand finale started brought tears to my eyes. "Born In The USA" is really an anti-war and anti-government song. The thought crossed my mind: did the person who chose to play "Born In The USA" realize this, or did the person not know it was an anti-war/anti-government song and just shallowly thought it was a popular song that had "USA" in the lyrics like all the rest of them?
Picture the greatest, mind blowing grand finale of fireworks you've ever seen, going off right above you in the dark sky, and "Born In The USA" blaring through your mind and body via the greatest, loudest sound system you've ever heard...and you'll get the picture why I got choked up for the first time hearing "Born In the USA". Anyway, have a great 4th of July, and for God's sake...don't blow your fingers off!!!!!! Especially if you don't have any "health insurance".......
Just kidding about saying above, that if I hear "Living In America" once more.....get your 4th of July GROOVE on with JAMES BROWN:
Happy 4th of July weekend, please remove your hats and stand for the Star Spangled Banner before we begin the fireworks:
The True Meaning of the 4th of July and Famous Celebratory Quotes
The 4th of July is an extremely patriotic holiday that can be celebrated in part with Fourth of July quotes. The fourth of July is a day that we celebrate the independence of our country, the United States of America. People celebrate with family and friend gatherings, barbecues, parties, games, food, fun, festivals, parades, musical events and fireworks, and even celebratory quotes which help tobut it is important not to forget the true meaning of the day.
Let us never forget the true meaning of the Fourth of July and what it means for our amazing country and the freedom we are afforded here in America, even if it is through Fourth of July quotes. So many take the freedom and liberty they are granted here in the United States of America for granted and forget the true meaning of the day. We may dress up in our nation's colors of red, white and blue, but do we know what the true meaning behind our flag is?
The Fourth of July is a time to commemorate America's declaration of separation from Great Britain that was made on July 4, 1776. Our freedom and our democracy that we have been blessed with is a direct product of the sheer determination from our forefathers who worked to establish the United States of America as a free country. Many of the Fourth of July quotes listed below will help share this.
One Fourth of July quotes, but also a serious quote as well is, "During the American Revolution, the legal separation of the American colonies from Great Britain occurred on July 2, 1776, when the Second Continental Congress voted to approve a resolution of independence that had been proposed in June by Richard Henry Lee of Virginia. After voting for independence, Congress turned its attention to the Declaration of Independence, a statement explaining this decision, which had been prepared by a Committee of Five, with Thomas Jefferson as its principal author. Congress debated and revised the Declaration, finally approving it on July 4."
In celebration of our independence it is nice to be able to share some inspiring quotes to help to remember and rekindle our patriotism. So, here are some Fourth of July quotes to share with those whom are important to you.

ReplyDeleteHey, try getting stuck in "It's a Small World" at Disneyland for an hour and 15 minutes as "It's a small world after all, it's a small small world..." repeating over and over and over and over. If my kids had already known how to swim, we'd have jumped in and swam out after 10 minutes!
Hey look - it is once again displaying my bear without having to reload the page AND it now is linking my site!
ReplyDeleteDisqus getting it right today...
LOL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
ReplyDeleteALL comments systems suck. I think they're trying to remedy something, that's why it keeps changing.
ReplyDeleteIt's been in the 90's here the past two days, fantastic weather for the 4th of July weekend!!!
ReplyDeleteWe don't get to go to the good fireworks display - instead we get to stay home to make sure our insane neighbors across the street don't burn down our house!
ReplyDeleteThey think they are still living in Arkansas where they came from, launching fusillades of bottle rockets, missiles, and full blown aerial fireworks over our house. Several years ago one of the fireworks went errant and exploded right over our heads in one of the big trees in front of our house. Showered us with burning material and left us waiting for the tree to ignite. We've also found spent rockets in our backyard with burn spots around them.
The neighbor next to us has some serious emotional problems and has become a total hermit. Now power or gas. The city recently mowed his front yard which had reached seven feet high, but the backyard hasn't been mowed in 3 years and is about four feet deep with dead vegetation just waiting to go up in flames!
Now power or gas
ReplyDeleteSupposed to be No power or gas
These are the same neighbors that, all cranked up, stand in the intersection at 3:00 am screaming and yelling at each other. One time my daughter came in crying at what she had seen, they were out in the front yard skinning out a bear they had shot on the hood of their pickup truck!
ReplyDeleteUnreal!
Our town of Yatesville has about 200 people in it, ALL fireworks bugs. It's insane here. Everyone is blowing of fireworks for weeks. Funny thing, is they're illegal in Pennsylvania.
ReplyDeleteAnd it scares the crap out of our dog. I hear a lot of people complain the fireworks scare their dogs.
ReplyDelete90's and low 100's here - at least it cools down to the upper 60's at night.
ReplyDeleteAnything that explodes or leaves the ground is illegal here as well, but that doesn't stop them.
ReplyDeleteYears ago, during the fireworks people were setting off, my friends dog broke out. We spent several days looking for him.
ReplyDeleteIn the meantime some neighbors several doors down the street couldn't figure out why their dogs kept on barking whenever they were in the house.
They finally found my friend's dog hiding in a cupboard in their garage.
He had tore through one of the small vent screens in the wall to squeeze into the garage. We could never figure out how he had fit through it.
I went camping with some friends one time and a couple of us drove out into the mountains about 10 miles from the campsite to do some target shooting. One of the guys brought his dog along. We set up some targets and on the first shot the dog took off through the forest. We spent the next six hours looking for the dog instead of target shooting. Finally, as it was getting dark, we gave up and headed back to camp, planning on continuing our search the next day. When we got back to camp the dang dog was sitting in the campsite!

ReplyDeleteHave they both become official members of the botanical bunch crowd ?
Are you guys high on mushrooms ? (like all the time ?).

Storm off Louisiana packing tropical force winds
MIAMI | Mon Jul 5, 2010 6:09pm EDT
(Reuters) - A storm packing heavy winds in the Gulf of Mexico is likely to strengthen into a tropical cyclone before it tears into coastal Louisiana on Monday evening, the U.S. National Hurricane Center said.
It said the storm, centered about 50 miles south-southeast of Morgan City, Louisiana, was already packing sustained winds near tropical storm force.
There was a "high chance" it will become the second named storm of the 2010 Atlantic hurricane season before it makes landfall in the Terrebonne Parish area near Caillou Bay early Monday evening, the Miami-based hurricane center said.
Forecasters at the hurricane center were also keeping close watch over an area of disturbed weather in the southeastern Gulf that could strengthen into a tropical depression later this week, potentially hampering oil spill clean-up efforts.
