Last September, when the ACORN scandal that his website helped launch was breaking in the press, Andrew Breitbart wrote a column for The Washington Times detailing the rollout of the undercover, right-wing gotcha. He recalled a 2009 meeting with "filmmaker and provocateur James O'Keefe" that took place in Breitbart's office in June. It was there that O'Keefe played the columnist the surreptitiously recorded videos he'd made with his sidekick, Hannah Giles, and which captured the two famously getting advice from ACORN workers on how prostitutes could skirt tax laws.
In his Times column, Breitbart was quite clear about what he saw that day in his office: He watched videos of O'Keefe "dressed as a pimp" sitting inside ACORN offices "asking for -- and getting -- help" from the misguided employees.
But today we know that's almost certainly not true.

Moving to California in 1976 was an agricultural shock! In Wisconsin a 350 acre farm was considered big. They were run typically by a family that lived on the property. Plowing was done with a tractor and disc, even with a horse and hand guided plow where the hills were steep.
ReplyDeleteUpon arriving here and traveling just north of Sacramento I found plots of land, 5,000 acres or more, being leveled with huge laser guided plows. Large tracts of land flooded to grow rice, walnut orchards the go on for miles down the highway. What houses there were on these properties were mostly abandoned and in poor repair. Corporate farms everywhere. To the south huge feed lots such as the Harris Ranch near Coalinga abound through the central valley.
I was appalled!

(I found it while trying to find you a picture of the Laser Guided Plows around here. So far I've only found little ones.)
Here's a plow similar to the ones I'm talking about. Those are about twice as big and have motors or hydrolics that raise and lower the blade. A surveying laser is set up on a tripod. (A surveying laser has a mirror which spins so the beam rotates in a level plane.) The sensors on the plow keep the blade adjusted perfectly level as the tractor pulls it along creating a perfect rice paddy.
