Do you have a CLUE yet, who the TeaBaggers are? I was going to say FUCKING CLUE, but I thought I'd lay off the cursing today. They're the same people who protested the purple Teletubby, Oscar the Grouch, The Last Temptation of Christ, Mel Gibson's The Passion of Christ, Monty Python's The Life of Brian, and on and on and on and on....... This is nothing new, it's just that they're calling themselves something different now: The TeaBaggers. They're ALL WHITE, so it's alright. They're Republicans, they're all white, they don't give a SHIT about Big Government as long as it's Republicans doing it, and there's no young people except when a Teabagger uses their child to hold a sign they can't read to politicize their kid. But that's "cute" and "folksy" when they do that! They're "people of the earth". Not an elitist among them! Not an intelligent person among them! But, there I go cursing again. One more and that's it: they're FUCKING IDIOTS!!! But technically, really THINK about who's saying not to call the TeaBaggers "idiots": it's the MILLIONAIRES on TV like Sarah Palin, Rush Limbaugh, FOX "news", and the Republicans - their puppetmasters - saying not to call them what they are: IDIOTS, and it's to stir up a fight between IDIOTS and NON-IDIOTS while they control the IDIOTS! I've never seen an actual TeaBagger saying "Stop calling me an idiot!" or having a sign like that, I've only seen their MILLIONAIRE handlers saying not to call them IDIOTS and those same people calling the NON-IDIOTS "elitists". If there are ANY "elitists", it's MULTI-MILLIONAIRE QUITTER SARAH PALIN and BILLIONAIRE LIAR RUSH LIMBAUGH!

Notice they are NOT protesting Obama escalating the Afghanistan war and spending 2.5 BILLION a week on the wars for NINE YEARS, but they're protesting him wanting health care for all Americans! Notice Sarah Palin was urging Obama to BOMB IRAN and support Israel...oh those MUSLIMS are dark skinned! We have a lot of stupid people in this country, and the corporate media loves to parade them on our TV's instead of the intelligent Americans. Why is Sarah Palin on TV all the time? She doesn't even hold ANY office and she's on TV all the time! And we have actual LIBERAL senators like Bernie Sanders who were actually elected to office who get ZERO time on the corporate owned TV we're supposed to think is liberal!

Luge track destined for injury and death. The speed of the track was intentionally jacked up (100 MPH) to make for a more exciting viewer experience, breaking all previous world records, and make the event an irresistible media draw/event. Maybe they should just take the young sports contestants - strip them naked - and then feed them to hungry lions - broadcast the bloodbath round and round the world for the bloodthirsty media and viewers to thoroughly enjoy.

A clear Plexiglas wall/screen should have been installed to prevent to luge contestants from leaving the track in the event they lost control of the luge sled. Foam padding should have been wrapped around the exposed steel I-beams to prevent injury if a luge rider was thrown from the luge sled and/or track while traveling at speeds of 100 MPH. Extra precautions at the end of a sharp curve - to protect the luge racers should have been taken. The end of a sharp curve is the location where the luge rider was apt to lose control and become subject to injury .
I agree 100%! I couldn't believe it was set up with those steel columns exposed as they were - you're only asking for trouble! OMG!

The temperature in Whistler is 41 degrees fahrenheit or 5 degrees Celcius.
That means that it is too warm to maintain the ice unless the artificial ice units, the amonia refrigeration units, are kept running full and very cold.
The surface ice will be almost wet, but just below, it will be very hard. The combined effect will be little control over skates or metal runners, coupled with a very slippery surface.
This will continue throughout the games.
This is the forecast for Whistler, all temps are above freezing.

ReplyDelete“To prevent devastating events in the future it needs to be studied,” said Nikolos Rurua, head of the Georgian national team. “I hope the promise we had from officials will be followed through. … I know that part [of the track] has been shut down and an investigation is under way because there were several accidents at that spot.”
The luge is always a dangerous event, what with one or two people lying on a small, slick sled that whips through an icy, curvy course. There is no reason to set up a track that produces speeds that challenge an athlete just to maintain grip on the sled.
A slower track does not weaken the competition. Competitors still would have to maximize the course as best they could. It would be a safer yet still level playing field, minus the eye-popping speeds reached only for the excitement of fans or for false standards such as clocks and “world records.”
At some point with these sports, enough has to be enough. No one set out to create a track that would cause athletes to die, but it is clear through training that this course has pushed the competitors to the brink – or, in this case, beyond.
Now the organizers need to protect the competitors from themselves. The luge is not for the faint of heart, and the athletes who thrive in it naturally push themselves to faster and faster times. But these are just games, nothing worth dying for.
The luge competition, set to begin Saturday, should be postponed for the time being and canceled if the track can’t be fixed. A team of experts – officials, coaches and athletes – must determine whether the course is safe or can be adjusted to become safe.
If this many crashes and this much fear was being generated during training sessions, it will only get worse when the athletes go all-out in pursuit of the gold.
One ugly, horrific tragedy on the luge course is one too many. This track, this sport, needs to be shut down until sanity reigns.
