Below: the wonders of the "MAGICAL CONSERVATIVE/LIBERTARIAN FREE MARKET", just like the Kids for Cash privatization/corporatization of juvenile jails (ironically, Ciavarella is a Democrat, but the privatization/corporatization of jails is most definitely a "free market conservative/libertarian" sentiment). Government restrictions are BAD! How dare the government restrict the amount of cash corporations can give politicians...or restrict the amount of time you can work like 8 hours a day and 40 hours a week...and how dare the government restrict children from working and earning a living!

If a picture's worth a thousand words, Lewis Hine was one of the most prolific writers in Industrial America. And yet he insisted that if he "could tell the story in words, I wouldn't need to lug a camera."

During the first two decades of the 20th century, Hine used his 5-by-7-inch Graflex camera as a tool for social reform and his photography as a powerful force for shaping the national conscience. He portrayed the chaotic arrival of immigrants at Ellis Island, the meager existence of the working poor on the Lower East Side of Manhattan, and the harsh working conditions of children in Pennsylvania's coal mines.
In the process, Hine established himself as America's first photojournalist and a champion of child labor laws in the United States. The Industrial Revolution brought great wealth, technological innovation and international prestige to the United States. But those achievements came at a price. Poverty, despair and disorder also emerged in a country that had been rapidly transformed by immigration, urbanization and industrial might.

Middle-class reformers, known as "progressives," launched a social justice movement to address the ills. Nothing disturbed the progressives more than the sight of children, sometimes as young as 8 years old, working long hours in dangerous and depressing factories, mills and coal mines.

Child labor was an emotional issue, not only because many businesses made large profits by exploiting children for extremely low wages but also because children were being deprived of an education that would allow them to better their life circumstances.

We apologize in advance for the NY Magazine-style headline, but this is a report that has to be read by all Senators who are preparing to reconfirm Bernanke for a second term. When voting for the Chairman, be aware that all of America will now look at you as the perpetrators who are encouraging the greatest inter and intra-generational theft to continue, and as prescribed by Newton 3rd law, sooner or later, an appropriate reaction will come from the very same middle class that you are seeking to doom into a state of perpetual penury and a declining standard of living.

America spoke in Massachusetts, and will speak again very soon if you do not send the appropriate signal that you have heard its anger - Do Not Reconfirm Bernanke.

You have been warned.

We present Albert Edwards' latest in its complete form as it must be read by all unabridged and without commentary. These are not the deranged ramblings of a fringe blogger - this is a chief strategist for a major international bank.

  4. The photographer you feature reminds me of a local PBS show I saw last night. It was about the Manzanar Internment Camp for the Japanese during WW2. They featured a family who were children at the time. Their father was a professional photographer before being sent to the camp. Not being allowed to have cameras in the camp he managed to get hold of a lens and a film holder and made himself a camera out of a shoe shine box and some plumbing pipes. He chronicled live within the camp through photographs.

They literally purchased the Supreme Court and Congress to ensure total control. The quid pro quo for control of the message in the media is clear:

    http://www.nytimes.com/2010/01/25/business/media/25local.html

And reality is nowhere to be found on the TeeVee (controlled propaganda networks) or in Congress:

    http://theautomaticearth.blogspot.com/2010/01/january-24-2010-state-of-union-honestly.html

45% of the $4.5 trillion in sovereign debt to be issued in 2010, or $2.025 trillion, will be American. Multiple voices have expressed grave doubts about the true identity of the buyers of US debt. There are serious suspicions that most of it has anonymously been bought by the Federal Reserve, simply for lack of other buyers. And that would mean the country buys its own debt, presumably in an effort to keep Treasuries attractive internationally.

In 2010, sovereign debt issued globally by mature economies will be three times what it on average was over the past 5 years. And the Federal Reserve has pledged to stop buying in a few months. It may skirt on that one a bit, but it can’t’ buy forever. Someone's going to find out.

Bailing out banks so the economy won't crash may seem to make sense at first sight, but if the economy crashes regardless, weren't those bail-outs futile? Or could you maybe even have saved the economy with the money spent on bank bail-outs? The losses that led to all this are still there, and it’s high time, or way past it, really, to see what they add up to.

And while you're at it, let's bring down the prices of those ridiculously overvalued American homes. All you need to do is take off your hands, and it'll happen like magic. Just see who offers what in a free market. But I wouldn’t want to make that choice either, because we all know who would offer what. By now it's heads you lose, tails you die, all over again. A whole year wasted with spending other people's money. Wait till they figure that one out.

The State of the Union? Honestly?

    * Some 5 million more people claim unemployment benefits than a year ago. How many more have fallen off the steep end, we simply don’t know. Job creation programs so far have been utter failures, no matter what Gibbs says. Or Obama. It's just never been a priority. The banking system has.
    * 3 million homeowners lost their houses (and then there's their families). And millions more are sure to follow.
    * Bankers will receive record bonuses. And the government does nothing to stop that, even though it owns large portions of the banks.
    * The federal debt has increased by trillions of dollars, which we unfortunately can’t count because the government conspires to keep the data secret. Is it $12 trillion, or $23.7 trillion?

The State of the Union? Let’s say, hypothetically, that the stock markets give back the gains they've made since March 2009 over the next few months. About $6 trillion dollars worth of them, I’m told, in the US alone. What effect do you think that would have? What if the losses kept growing after that? How many companies would that bankrupt? How many investors? What state would that leave the union in?

And yes, you do have to budget for that possibility, it really is that simple. A union that has no plan B will always be driven to lie about its true state, no matter what state it's in.

  9. Michelle Bachman cashed in on $250,000 on welfare Updated at 3:17 PM

This article was first published by TruthDig (truthdig.com)

Michele Bachmann has become known as the Queen of the anti-government Tea Baggers, protesting health care reform and slamming every other government handout as “socialism.” But what her followers don’t know is that Rep. Bachmann is also a queen of another kind—a welfare queen. That’s right, the anti-government insurrectionist has taken more than a quarter-million dollars in government handouts thanks to corrupt farming subsidies she has been collecting for at least a decade.

And she’s not the only one who has been padding her bank account with taxpayer money.

Bachmann, of Minnesota, has spent much of this year agitating against health care reform, whipping up the tea-baggers with stories of death panels and rationed health care. She has called for a revolution against what she sees as Barack Obama’s attempted socialist takeover of America, saying presidential policy is “reaching down the throat and ripping the guts out of freedom.”

But data compiled from federal records by Environmental Working Group, a nonprofit watchdog that tracks the recipients of agricultural subsidies in the United States, shows that Bachmann has an inner Marxist that is perfectly at ease with living on the government dole. According to the organization’s records, Bachmann’s family farm received $251,973 in federal subsidies between 1995 and 2006. The farm had been managed by Bachmann’s recently deceased father-in-law and took in roughly $20,000 in 2006 and $28,000 in 2005, with the bulk of the subsidies going to dairy and corn. Both dairy and corn are heavily subsidized—or “socialized”—businesses in America (in 2005 alone, Washington spent $4.8 billion propping up corn prices) and are subject to strict government price controls. These subsidies are at the heart of America’s bizarre planned agricultural economy and as far away from Michele Bachmann’s free-market dream world as Cuba’s free medical system. If American farms such as hers were forced to compete in the global free market, they would collapse.

  11. Under fire, Obama’s chief of staff calls liberal strategy ‘fucking retarded’

    By John Byrne
    Tuesday, January 26th, 2010 -- 8:46 am

rahm emanuel Under fire, Obamas chief of staff calls liberal strategy fucking retarded Conservatives have had it with President Barack Obama -- in the latest Gallup poll, he earned a just 23 percent approval rating from Republican voters. Liberal Democrats, meanwhile, have the president's back, awarding him an 88 percent backing.

But liberal support -- at least for the president's chief of staff, Rahm Emanuel -- seems to be waning. And Emanuel seems to be slapping back.

According to a report Tuesday in the Wall Street Journal, Emanuel told a liberal strategy group in August that a plan to run advertisements against conservative Democrats who were "balking at Mr. Obama's health-care overhaul" was grossly unwise.

"F—ing retarded," Mr. Emanuel scolded the group, according to participants cited by the paper.

"He warned them not to alienate lawmakers whose votes would be needed on health care and other top legislative items," the reporter said.

  12. David Rockefeller: Unashamed Predatory Globalist

"Some even believe we (the Rockefeller family) are part of a secret cabal working against the best interests of the United States, characterizing my family and me as 'internationalists' and of conspiring with others around the world to build a more integrated global political and economic structure---one world, if you will. If that's the charge, I stand guilty, and I am proud of it."

    --David Rockefeller, Memoirs, page 405

"We are grateful to The Washington Post, The New York Times, Time magazine, and other great publications whose directors have attended our meetings and respected their promise of discretion for almost forty years. It would have been impossible for us to develop our plan for the world if we had been subject to the bright lights of publicity during those years. But the world is now more sophisticated and prepared to march towards a world government. The super-national sovereignty of an intellectual elite and world bankers is surely preferable to the national auto-determination practiced in past centuries."

---David Rockefeller, at a 1991 Bilderberger meeting

"We are on the verge of a global transformation. All we need is the right major crisis and the nations will accept the New World Order."

    ---David Rockefeller

"But this present window of opportunity, during which a truly peaceful and interdependent world order might be built, will not be open for long. Already there are powerful forces at work that threaten to destroy all of our hopes and efforts to erect an enduring structure of global interdependence."

---David Rockefeller, speaking at the Business Council for the United Nations, September 14, 1994

"Whatever the price of the Chinese Revolution, it has obviously succeeded not only in producing more efficient and dedicated administration, but also in fostering high morale and community of purpose. The social experiment in China under Chairman Mao's leadership is one of the most important and successful in human history."

In return, employees would receive their portion of the money early and potentially temper a public furor like the one that followed similar payments last year, said several people familiar with the matter.

    http://theeconomiccollapseblog.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/01/Economic-Black-Hole-20-Reasons-Why-The-US-Economy-Is-Dying-300x240.jpg

Even though the U.S. financial system nearly experienced a total meltdown in late 2008, the truth is that most Americans simply have no idea what is happening to the U.S. economy. Most people seem to think that the nasty little recession that we have just been through is almost over and that we will be experiencing another time of economic growth and prosperity very shortly. But this time around that is not the case. The reality is that we are being sucked into an economic black hole from which the U.S. economy will never fully recover.

The intruder pushed her down on the bed and started to oblige when she realized the man’s hair was much longer than her husband’s. Switching on the lights, she saw the stranger and started to scream.

(CNN) -- Four men were charged Tuesday after attempting to illegally access and manipulate the phone system in a district office of U.S. Sen. Mary Landrieu, D-Louisiana, a local U.S. attorney's office said.

Joseph Basel, 24, Robert Flanagan, 24, James O'Keefe, 25, and Stan Dai, 24, were charged with entering Landrieu's New Orleans office, which is federal property, under "false pretenses for the purpose of committing a felony," according to the attorney's office.

    Source: Pravda.RU

International arrest warrants have been requested for George W. Bush, Richard (Dick) Cheney, Donald Rumsfeld, George Tenet, Condoleeza Rice and Alberto Gonzales at the International Criminal Court, The Hague, Netherlands.

    +++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

May they all fry in hell.

    +++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

Professor of Law Francis A. Boyle of the University of Illinois College of Law in Champain, United States of America, has issued a Complaint with the Prosecutor for the International Criminal Court against the above-mentioned for their practice of “extraordinary rendition” (forced disappearance of persons and subsequent torture) in Iraq and for criminal policy which constitutes Crimes against Humanity in violation of the Rome Statute which set up the ICC.

As such, the Accused (mentioned above) are deemed responsible for the commission of crimes within the territories of many States signatories of the Rome Statute, in violation of Rome Statute Articles 5 (1)(b), 7 (1)(a), 7 (1)(e), 7 (1)(g), 7(1)(h), 7(1)8i) and 7(1)(k). Despite the fact that the USA is not a signatory State, the ICC has the jurisdiction to prosecute under Article 12 (2)(a) of the Rome Statute.

This Article stipulates that the Court may exercise its jurisdiction if one or more States in which the conduct in question occurred has accepted the jurisdiction of the Court. Furthermore, the forced disappearance of persons and torture in deemed by the Rome Statute as a Crime against Humanity, one which is still ongoing.

The Exercise of Jurisdiction may be activated under Article 13, with respect to a crime committed under Article 5 if the Prosecutor has initiated an investigation. Professor Boyle, in his issue of complaint, respectfully requested that such an investigation be initiated.

The issue of complaint states “about 100 human beings have been subjected to enforced disappearances and subsequent torture by the Accused”, adds that some of them could still be alive today, and that an investigation could save these lives. Regarding those whose enforced disappearances led to their deaths, the Complaint requests a process of explanation and clarification for what would be a murder investigation.

Professor Francis A. Boyle of the University of Illinois College of Law in Champaign, U.S.A. has filed a Complaint with the Prosecutor for the International Criminal Court (I.C.C.) in The Hague against U.S. citizens George W. Bush, Richard Cheney, Donald Rumsfeld, George Tenet, Condoleezza Rice, and Alberto Gonzales (the “Accused”) for their criminal policy and practice of “extraordinary rendition” perpetrated upon about 100 human beings. This term is really their euphemism for the enforced disappearance of persons and their consequent torture. This criminal policy and practice by the Accused constitute Crimes against Humanity in violation of the Rome Statute establishing the I.C.C.

While the New York telecommunications giant's wireless arm remained resilient in the face of lower consumer spending, its legacy wireline segment wasn't so fortunate. Verizon said there haven't been any indications of a pickup in spending on the business side, while the number of new FiOS customers disappointed Wall Street.

"The economy won't help us as much as we thought," said Chairman and Chief Executive Ivan Seidenberg, adding ...

  39. if Verizon wants to get more people paying for their FIOS TV service they need to drop the monthly price on their DVR. Who do they think they're fooling with these lowball prices but a $15 monthly fee to have their DVR? If that DVR was free, or even $5 a month, I would've switched over a year ago, I'm sure I'm not the only one who feels this way.

  41. Job Loss Cuts Today : 54,500

    Welcome the jobless "recovery"

Job Cuts Get Brutal: Sprint, Pfizer, Home Depot, Caterpillar

    Posted: January 26, 2009

The job loss tally so far today: 54,500. Cuts are coming across industries as further weakness in the economy keeps major employers slashing away.

On the same day it agreed to buy rival drug maker Wyeth, Pfizer said it would cut 15 percent from its combined workforce (that's a bit less than 19,500 jobs). Meanwhile, Caterpillar is faring poorly in the global recession. It's cutting its workforce by 20,000 including 11 percent of its workforce, or 12,000 jobs, and 8,000 contractors. Home Depot, a lingering victim of the downturn in both consumer spending and housing, said it would slash another 7,000 jobs as it shutters its high-end EXPO business. And finally, Sprint Nextel is eliminating 14 percent of its workforce, or 8,000 jobs.

Update: Add another 6,000 to the tally above. Philips Electronics is cutting too.

  42. REPOST: The Pelican Institute: Louisiana’s First AstroTurf Think Tank
    2010 January 26

tags: Mary Landrieu wiretapping, Pelican Institute, Robert Flanagan
    by Lamar White, Jr

This is what a real grassroots institute looks like:

The Pelican Institute, a far-right Louisiana quasi-think tank, brought O’Keefe to town last Thursday to speak about investigative journalism at a luncheon in his honor. They spoke very highly of him:

“James has been a pioneer in the use of new media to drive these kinds of important stories. He will discuss the role of new media and show examples of effective investigative reporting.

The Pelican Institute claims to be focused on Louisiana public policy, but regularly brings in activists and scholars from outside the state. Almost all of their Louisiana policy work is conducted by conservative writers on the east coast.

By contrast, we at Louisiana Progress believe that the best pragmatic solutions to Louisiana’s challenges come from Louisiana people. So, you’ll notice that the progressive policy work conducted by Louisiana Progress comes only from Louisiana scholars, practicioners, and policymakers. We wouldn’t have it any other way. And, just so you know, we’re going to focus on finding real solutions that help Louisiana – we’ll leave the crime drama and cloak-and-dagger escapades to the guys at the Pelican Institute.

And here’s what a fake one looks like, one that, we know now, employed a young man- Robert Flanagan- who thought it would be a good idea to attempt to bug the telephone lines of Senator Mary Landrieu’s New Orleans office.
