Big Dan's Big News May 18, 2008

Sen. Edward Kennedy (D-Mass.) was transported by helicopter from Cape Cod Hospital to Massachusetts General Hospital this morning after an emergency call from the Kennedy compound in Hyannis Port. The Boston Globe is reporting that doctors believe Kennedy "suffered a seizure at his home in Hyannis Port this morning, then a second seizure as he was being transported by helicopter from Cape Cod Hospital."

Obama warns GOP about critical ads. In recent contests in Louisiana and Mississippi, Republicans or their allies ran TV ads linking the Democratic House nominees to Obama, warning that a vote for them was a tacit endorsement of Obama's agenda, which the ads described as very liberal. In Mississippi, ads against Democrat Travis Childers also tied him to Obama's former pastor, the Rev. Jeremiah Wright, and to House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif. The efforts failed, putting Democrats in House seats the GOP had considered safe, and sending waves of panic through Republican circles nationwide.

Bush to Join McCain for High-Dollar Fundraiser

What exactly is going on with the way the media is treating McCain?

Washington Post Reporter Complains In Online Chat: ‘Oy, What’s With All The McCain Questions?’

John McCain Flashback: "The NRA is entitled to their advocacy. I don’t think they help the Republican Party at all, but I don’t think they should in any way play a major role in the Republican Party’s policy making." [CNN, 5/12/00]

Yesterday, McCain made a big deal out of stopping at a gun shop in West Virginia to show that he's just a regular guy -- a man of the people. He even bought some fishing gear. But, his press secretary exposed the reality that McCain is really a very wealthy elitist:

After the stop at the gun shop, Mr. McCain’s traveling press secretary, Brooke Buchanan, said that Mr. McCain would use his new fishing rod on the artificial lake at his 10-acre Arizona spread in Sedona.
